Is it just me, or does this guy not have a clue?

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20020204/ts_nm/attack_military_dc_5

Just watch him in his press conferences... Count how many times, after asked a question, he just looks all around like the answer is going to fall out of the sky.

You must be kidding.

 Insane

He is the best SecDef we've had since... well since last time he was SecDef!

And so what if it 'may have killed' a few Afghans-- so is the nature of war. People get killed, even some innocents. If you have a problem with that, then you're on the wrong planet...

He may not have a clue sometimes, but there are alot of people that have been in our govt that didn't have one either. I gotta admit his bluntness is great.

N400QX.. Zip it a bit.. I am in the US Military... I have been in since 93. I know what has to be done. He isnt, however, the best Secdef that we have had... get a clue. I can tell you from the inside that it was about to be a mass disaster pre Sept 11th. Punk wanted to close down more bases, cut the US Navy fleet, and cut the B1B Lancer force in half.

Then Sept 11th came around, and that idea went out the window.

Its so sad that it takes something that drastic to wake up and smell the coffee..

Dont sit there and try to preech to me...

I noticed... makes it even worse! You can't think Billy, Cohen, & friends ran the Pentagon better than the current administration, can you?

>He isnt, however, the best Secdef that we have had... get a clue

I didn't say that... I said hes the best SecDef since the last time he was SecDef (mid-80s, correct?).

>Punk wanted to close down more bases, cut the US Navy fleet, and cut the B1B Lancer force in half.

Sounds like a scaled down version of Clinton's military plan. But, really, I do agree-- I was hoping the new administration would be pro-military (unlike the last), but unfortunately they don't like the two-war plan and don't like having a big military. Pisses me off.

Sorry if I came across as anti-military in my first post... I'm just about as pro-military as they come.

Well I guess I wouldn't see the actual inner workings and how the SecDef is really acting, but it is really refreshing to see him at his press conferences with some straight-talk and making fun of hideous questions posed by stupid and ignorant reporters.

In war, accidents happen. It is a shame but it is the sad truth. If we relied less on local people for intelligence, we never would have attacked the place. There is still a lot of division in Afghanistan and lots of people who are trying to play the United States against each other.

What would you say if someone came to your town and kill your family. And a week later the same people come again an tell you: "Sorry, for killing your family. Now we know there were innocent. Here, take this 1000 $ and have an nice day."
Must be a real comfort.

I think, in a war of special forces such things should not happen.

Gekko,

Last time I checked, only God is perfect (and his track record is not untarnished, either). Mistakes happen. You can try to minimize the number of times they happen, but they will happen.

Cfalk,

God is an unproved phenomenon. So, nobody is perfect. But this kind of Mistake happens too often in this war.

Really three or four times a month.....

I consider once too many and I know that most people I know in the US armed forces also consider once too many.

So who is the barbarian there Gekkogecko.

Those guys are trying to do everything in their power to avoid those types of accidents.

There are no barbarians. Who said so? And of course once too many, but it happend oftener (oftener? Is that the right spelling?) and it is someones fault.

25 Post contains images L-188 : Oftener.....I think that spelling depend on where you are from... Its a regional thing

27 Post contains images L-188 : Darmstadt....that would 'splain it. That dialect is total different then what a Stuttgarter would use
