Saban compares loss to 9/11, Pearl Harbor
Alabama coach says upset by Louisiana-Monroe was 'catastrophic event'

Citing the 9-11 terrorist attacks and Pearl Harbor, Alabama coach Nick Saban said Monday his team must rebound like America did from a “catastrophic event.”

In this case, that would be an embarrassing 21-14 loss Saturday to Louisiana-Monroe.

“Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event,” Saban said during the opening remarks of his weekly news conference. “It may be 9-11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to catastrophic events. Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, or whatever, and that was a catastrophic event.”

What a tool. So 9/11 "sortof" changed the spirit of America? And Pearl Harbor "got us ready for WWII", huh? Or whatever? Like, was it like totally catastrophic and stuff? Did this guy ever go to college himself? Or did he ever sort of finish high school, or whatever?

Saban has always been an ass. Now, thanks to national media, more people are aware of it.

Nothing new here.

You hit it. He has always said one thing and done another.

He left MSU to go to LSU, which was a surprise to everyone in East Lansing. He said he wasn't planning on leaving

Same thing from LSU to Miami

Same thing from Miami to Bama.

He is a jerk. Who knows if "Bama" is his dream job. It probably will be until another, better offer comes

It's one thing to take football seriously. It's quite another to cheapen the lives that were lost on 9/11 and at Pearl Harbor by comparing them to a football game.

What an ass.

I'm willing to bet he wishes he could take those ill-considered words back.

They were thoughtless and hurtful, and waaaaayyy wrong.

Are you kidding? He's a college football coach...he's more likely pissed off because the world doesn't agree with him.

What else do you expect when Saban is coach of the college football team with perhaps the most ridiculously rabid fan base in the USA?  Yeah sure

It makes Auburn and LSU fans look positively "normal" in comparison.

Not to mention makes them look like Rhodes scholars compared to the backwards hillbillies in Tuscaloosa, led by their moronic coach Nick "My Word is My Bond" Saban.

Too bad we can't make Saban live through that day and aftermath again but in New York. Maybe then he'll understand the implications of his statements.

Probably his new dream job is at Louisiana-Roadkill University.

And as such is totally out of touch with the normal working American. Why do the fan base at certain Universities consider the football coach more important than the University president?

Because he is the focal point of the most public and popular facet of the institution. He also generates more money than most university presidents.

I hope he his assistants and the University's administration all got on his case. I also hope he has to apologize and has to take some 'education' about such events and how his team losing is microscopic in comparison to those history changing events.

I'm sure he does. However, the reality is that in the minds of many Alabama fans, the way they look at things, he was probably accurate. Sad but true.

For some real fun, have a listen to what Sir Charles has to say on the subject:

Go to www.roundtableradio.com and select the "Charles Barkley on Everything" link on the left side of the page.

On a more serious note, the furor over this has really died here after what happened to Siran Stacy and his family. To their credit, many Bama fans are more concerned about him and his surviving daughter than the game at this point.

For those who don't know, his van was hit in Dothan earlier in the week by a truck driving on the wrong side of the road killing his wife and four of his five children. The surviving daughter was flown to Children's hospital here in Birmingham which is not a good sign but he is apparently out of danger at this point.

The re-arrests of Joran van der Sloot, etc. has also taken some heat off of Saban.
