He was on The Jim Rome show not too long ago. A fascinating guy. Can't say I agree with his whole lifestyie, but he was a one-of-a-kind.

No prob, ole Falcon was a little slow with the source document  duck

 wink

He died at age 69, relatively young I think. But the abuses he put his body through, I guess it shouldn't be a surprise.

I met him in a hospital in LAS several years ago, in fact around 1992-1993. He was in rough shape at the time, and I really don't know what he was in for. I can say though, he was very crabby. I would have been too. RIP, and I send my condolences to his family.

Damn straight. Or at the very least finally get him across the Snake River Canyon. Or maybe one last jump over the fountains @ Caesars.....

He must have known he was about to pass on, as there had been a bit of acrimony between himself and Kanye about that video. So I guess he wanted to bury the hatchet before he passed.

Especially since you can count the number of times he should have been dead.

Another American Icon gone. Kaptain Robbie is nowhere near the showman his dad was.

I just mentioned that to my buddies in the room a few minutes before I read this thread! Although, my scenario had the motorcycle disintegrate into a huge ball of fire in the middle of the canyon... Sure would go 'out with a bang!'

Snake River Canyon

You can still to this day,see the mound of dirt that was used as the base of the takeoff ramp for the canyon jump attempt. I remember watching that live, on (I think) ABC's "Wide World of Sports".

"The jump, on Sept. 8, 1974, was nearly a total disaster. Crowds rioted the previous night because of excessive beer and concession prices. The parachute accidentally deployed when the Sky-Cycle was launched, and strong headwinds blew Knievel back into the canyon where he crashed, 600 feet below, just a few feet from the swirling waters of the river. Twelve thousand people trampled restraining fences to try to get to the edge of the canyon and see what had happened. Miraculously, Evel Knievel walked away with only minor injuries. "

Evel Knievel was a showman like no other.

Somehow, he made it to 69 years old. Evil Kneivel was an icon of the 1970's, somehow survied many too close endings of his own life. He abused alcohol and pain killers, probably to control the pain he must have been in much of his life. There are stories he was abusive to women too. Guess he will be going to that great big motorcycle jump in the sky...or hell.
