Is it true that there is an $80.00 surcharge to rent a car at the airport?

I don't have my receipt from earlier this year, but if I remember right, there was a nice charge for the privilege of renting there.

You can rent a car with Sixti for about €5 a day; they are based off the airport site so it doesn't include the surcharge. Though it is a little more work to get there as there is no shuttle!

I always use BBL Car rental when in Holland. Yes, they do charge a surcharge for airport pick-up/drop-off services of 38 Euros (some 55 USD) with another 25 Euros (36 USD) for pick-ups/drop-offs between 10 PM and 5 AM. Pick-up is very comfortable: someone will be waiting for you at Arrivals, he'll take you to your car usually parked right outside. Drop-off is similar. No shuttle to some industrial complex miles from the airport and the waste of time this entails.

Check their website for more info http://www.bblcarrental.nl/en/rates/tar9_fs.htm.

I was planning on having a car for only a couple of days while in Amsterdam. Would BBL work if I was walking in?

I thought I would head back to the airport to pick up the car so that I could drive back to the airport on my day of departure.
