My recently purchased DVDs of the original Star Wars have brought back an amazing lot of childhood memories.
I was always a fan of the Empire, however the toys available back in the early 80s leant towards the rebel alliance. My fave was the snowspeeder, with the lighting up guns if you pressed the square on the underside of the vehicle.
The X-wing was cool, and my Dad put battle damage on it with boot polish. The damned Y-wing toy was so brittle, and I imagine it was the same in a fight. As for the B-wing, WTF!!?
We all know that the TIE fighters didn't have shields, and I'll omit the Falcon as (to paraphrase) we "came in that thing and therefore we know that we're braver than Leia thought".

X-wing ofcourse, faster and more agile then the Y-wing. Though the Y-wing had better armor. But the X-wing just looked cooler!
As for Imperial Fighters, I'll go for the Tie Interceptor.
I still have that snowspeeder. I actually bought it around 10 years ago in a toyshop in my hometown, who still had some vintage star wars stuff left. If I would've known then how much they're worth now, I don't think I would've cut up the packing to hang it on my bedroom wall

TIE Defender...
The B-Wing could sustain damage, packs quite a punch, and while looking funky, is one helluva ship, just not too fast nor manueverable.
The X-Wing is a all-around compromise. Good dogfighter, but doesn't have alot of muscle against capital ships.
The Y-Wing is similar to the B-Wing, just not as capable in all aspects.
The A-Wing is super fast, doesn't have the muscle to damage capital ships (unless you kamakaze it into the bridge of a Super Star Destroyer), and is a decent dogfighter...
This is all from memory...and yes I am a Trekkie and Star Wars geek...

They serve different purposed. the Y-wing is more of a bomber, whereas the X-wing is a multi-role fighter. It's like the difference between an A-6 and and FA/18.
So, what it really comes down to is which mission you prefer.

Mark has inserted a serious and logical element into this discussion. I agree, the Y-wing was more of a bomber.
I shall think about it, howvever, as a kid, the Snowspeeder was my favourite vehicle.
If I was in a scrap though, I'd prefer the X-wing.

36 JetMech: Wow, it's funny you should mention Star Wars, as I watched Return of the Jedi last night on telly! As for me, my choice of space-craft would be the N
