Hey,

Techno is about the coolest music there is, but when you go back and ask who and where Techno was really invented, there are various conflicts. Some say Techno was invented in Germany, and that is why there is the Love Parade. Others claim that France was the place starting with artists as Future Breeze. Others say Holland, Sweden, the U.K, and finally the United States. Does anyone know who and where this was invented? Thanx.

Cheers

Sandro

I think it was stated in the UK, with the rave scene.

I think you really need to look way beyond the late 80s and raves...back to Kraftwerk, Afrika Bambaata, Neu and Georgio Moroder's experiments in Disco . Add early Roland drum machines, mix those ingredients and then consider these influences on the Detroit music scene in the late 70s and early 80s. The rest you know.

Personally? I think it all started with the Theramin  Smile

The "invention" of techno had nothing to do with the Love Parade. The Love Parade and all the other dance celebrations was a result of techno.

You're right, you will get different conflictual answers to this questions depending on who you ask and where you ask. Europeans will give you very different answers from Americans, particularly Midwesteners.

Techno originated from House Music (real house music not trans or even booty house variations) which was influenced by older electronica such as Kraftwerk and Psychic TV. You can even go as far as Devo influencing the sound but that's arguable. If you every go to Chicago, you'll find out that one of the biggest names here is DJ Frankie Knuckles who pretty much helped pioneer the distinct house sound with songs like "Jack Your Body" and "Rock the House".

And then eventually the people up in Detroit got a hold of the sound and started making variations to it and pretty much tweaking the shit out of it and then eventually the sound and rythm got faster and faster. SO, in America at least, techno was born in Detroit, which is why most of the great techno artists and DJ's originate from Detroit with names like Richie Hawtin (Plastikman), Derrick May, etc. After Plus 8 Records was born, the techno revolution pretty much started from there and lived on.

Apparently Americans and Europeans somehow crossed paths because during this time (about 1994 or so) there was also some great techno coming out of Germany and especially Belgium. As people started celebrating the new-found culture more in the form of raves, the Love Parade was born and was dubbed the biggest rave in the world. At the time it totally deafeted the purpose of having a "big" rave because raves were supposed to be deep and underground to begin with.

ANyway, as the beats got faster, different genres like jungle and drum & bass were born pushing beats well beyond the 300rpm range, the Roland TB303 became popular again and people started buying suckers left and right. From techno also came trance (all kinds), ambient and tribal (trance and house).

I should also add that the influence of funk (ie James brown, etc.) also played a big role in the development of techno.

Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

The origin of Techno as we know it today was from Detriot in the USA. A DJ called Marshall Jefferson was one of the pioneers.

Detroit techno is minimalist, and 'pure' techno should be minimalist and industrial sounding, otherwise you veer towards Trance

I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?
