DEADWOOD, S.D. - A relaxing soak in a hot tub came to an abrupt end when Marlene Todd came eye to eye with a mountain lion in her backyard.
"I was kind of hidden, sitting with my back up against the side of the tub, and I heard a little rustling sound in the needles right beside me," she said.
Todd said she thought it might have been her house cat until she saw "this big, tan, hairy body" just 4 inches away.
[. . .]
"Now I know what a goldfish feels like when the cat is staring in its bowl," Todd said.

Quoting KROC's Wife (Thread starter): thought it might have been her house cat until I saw "this big, tan, hairy body with some kind of lame tattoo" just 4 inches away.

I travelled with a guy that got stuck in a toilet block with a leopard in one of the National park Campsites.
He was in one cubicle, and he just thought the guy in the next cubicle was taking a really massive dump, when he came out to wash his hands there was a leopard. He was inadvertently blocking it's escape, so he was lucky not to be attacked, but it jumped up onto a sill and stayed there long enough for him to make a hurried exit. No one believed him when he came out white and jabbering "there's a leopard in there", until it came out the door a short time after him...
My most recent bear encounter was in Whistler; had the bear spray out and the safety off when a couple of spooked cubs came crashing through the brush and onto the hiking trail right in front of me. Fortunately, they took off. Never saw mom, fortunately.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.
