Manhattan Hotel Midtown East, South Or Timesquare? (by Kay Nov 23 2007 in Non Aviation)

After alot of research, I found that all reviewers on the web for almost all 3star and 4star hotels in midtown complained about the small room, and the noise of the city/heater/corridors.

Therefore, I decided to focus on the view outside the hotel. I found a hotel that not only offers a view Times Square in its entirity through a large window, but also high floors that can help against the noises of the city. It also displayed the size of their rooms in the description, which was 15 to 20% bigger than rooms in other hotels in the area, solving the last problem. The issue is that it was not on or in Times Square like all other hotels, meaning you're somewhere around a corner in a 12 floor building facing nothing, but this hotel was above Times Square, and by far. This was the Novotel, right on broadway, and 52nd. I booked a view room, and we got one at the 23rd floor. The view of Times Square was unbelievable. It brought the NY atmostphere to inside the room, or even to bed!  Smile
For a 3 star the room was great, and the size was very good for NY, let alone Times Square (some sources credit it as 3.5 or 4 stars, but most 3). The lounge, lobby etc is great and stylish, and the restaurant (on the 7th floor) is in an area with a very high ceiling and glass walls, offering an impression of space, and a view of the buildings as background, again bringing the NY atmosphere to you.
Since I enjoy views, when I remember this hotel now I imagine the feeling of space and that of being on top of NY watching from far high.
Some problems included bed sheets not totally fitted to the bed and of course the noise of the heater, and on one morning (out of 6), the noise of people chatting outside their room.
But these were really mere details. Check in and out and friendliness of staff was top.
I'd recommend this hotel!

Kay  Smile

Glad to hear everything worked out. I walked around Manhattan today as I am in town visiting family. I hope you didn't get caught in the rain/hail/sleet/freezing rain.

Damn, I wish I had gotten caught in that. I'll have to get outside tomorrow.  Sad

Thanks for letting us know how it went, and that you had a good time! I'll keep the Novotel in mind should anybody ask.

Come back soon!
