So: Season 18 begins tonight (01/02/08); anyone going to be watching? Should be interesting to watch. The show as a whole has jumped the shark, but I'm hoping the new actors will shake things up a little bit.

Highlights:

- Sam Waterston becomes DA with the departure of Fred Thompson
- Linus Roache becomes the new ADA (Character name: Michael Cutter)
- Jeremy Sisto becomes Green's new partner (Character name: Cyrus Lupo)

I kind of thought the whole series had run its course 2 seasons ago. It doesn't help it is on 24/7 on TBS, USA, and a few other places.

I don't know, but somehow, Law & Order isn't the same anymore since Jerry Orbach died.

At least there's still Law & Order CI, which I've recently come to enjoy because of the twists it has.

Still nice to see some of the older ones. Seasons 1-5 and 14 are the only ones available on DVD (AFAIK), and I'm hoping 6-13 will at some point...

We'll be recording it on the DVR for viewing tomorrow.

We never watch commercials if we can help it.

I thought that at first, but I've liked the change in personnel. Keeps the show fresh.

Finally. I think having Jack in there will make that role more active and interesting.

That is a great show. Pity they have buried it on USA

I kind of liked when Lenny had a new Squiggy every few years, but remained a constant like Jack. Still, I don't think the show has gone downhill at all. The format is timeless.

I totally agree. I loved Jerry Orbach.

We'll probably watch it this week to see how the new season is, hopefully it will be good, it usually is. The defense should win more often, so the ending isn't always so predictable. It used to be that way more in the early Michael Moriarty era than it seems to be now.

Blame the programming geniuses at NBC for that one.

When I watch the really old episodes with Moriarty, I am sooo thankful they canned him.

Hey, NBC takes the blame for a lot of things these days. The writer's strike is a huge example of that.

Quoting HuskyAviation (Reply 6):

Agreed. It was much better when you couldn't predict things. Also, it wouldn't be bad seeing a genuinely not guilty person winning at trial, perhaps one the DA had pushed too far. Either that, or the DA fighting new DNA evidence that exonerates a defendant, which is more and more common these days.

I thought he quit L&O? I thought there was something to do with his politics that prompted him to leave.

That would be interesting--wouldn't surprise me if something like that played out this season.

From WIki -

Quote:
From 1990 to 1994, Moriarty starred as Ben Stone on Law & Order. He left the show in 1994, alleging that his departure was a result of his threatening a lawsuit against then-Attorney General Janet Reno, who had cited Law & Order as offensively violent. Moriarty criticized Reno's comment, and claimed that not only did she want to censor shows like Law and Order but also such fare as Murder, She Wrote. He later accused Law & Order executive producer Dick Wolf of not taking his concerns seriously, and claimed that Wolf and other network executives were "caving in" to Reno's "demands" on the issue of TV violence. Moriarty published a full page advertisement in a Hollywood trade magazine, calling upon fellow artists to stand up with him against attempts to censor TV show content.

Wolf and others working on Law & Order tell a different story, however. On November 18, 1993, Moriarty and Wolf, along with other television executives, met with Reno to dissuade her from supporting any law that would censor the show. Wolf said that Moriarty overreacted to any effect the law was likely to have on the show. Law & Order producers claim they were forced to remove Moriarty from the series because of "erratic behavior". One example reportedly happened during the filming of the episode "Breeder" when, according to the episode's director, Arthur Forney, Moriarty was unable to deliver his lines with a straight face. Series and network officials deny any connection to his departure and Janet Reno. Wolf also denies that the show has become less violent, graphic or controversial since 1994.

L&O is far more realistic than CSI could ever dream of being.

I liked Dennis Farina's character in one of the seasons.

Out of all of Jack McCoy's assistants, Angie Harmon was my favorite.

There's nothing wrong with the USA network. You can watch L&O CI and SUV back-to-back.

checkmark  We miss Dennis Farina, who always had the whiff of illegality about his character, and there has never been an assistant DA who played the part better than Angie Harmon.

My favorite in the category has to be Catherine Bell.

Why hasn't she bumped ugly's with Elliott? They're both single.

Munch's character cracks me up with his one-liners too.

Law and Order CI, returns to the NBC network next week.

I watched both hours last night had no complaints about the characters, just will take some time to get use to the new relationships. I did think the Asst DA giving Green and Liebo(?) permission to search a business after the warrant was denied was a stretch.

I thought they were going to but he's recently reconciled with his wife because his wife came back to him when she found out she was knocked-up. Turns out it looks like it is his. So she "allowed" him to come back home.

Yeah, he's funny and his on-screen persona is the TV equivilent of Blackbird. The actor himself is severely anti. Ice-T's character had a funny line once when Munch asked him if he had any skeletons in his closet. His reply- "Yeah, I'm a Republican."
