Excuse the anatomy ignorance here, A friend and I were in a debate. Is it possible to pregnate a woman while she is on her period?

I think it depends on the woman and how fertile she is..... That's what I have heard.

Its not possible for a woman to get pregnant during and few days after her period. A lot of people use this as an effective birth control system.

It's possible, but very unlikely.

Question is, why the hell would anyone want to TRY around that time of the month? At least you didn't ask if it can happen sitting on a toilet seat or something like that.  rotfl

I've known several women who like it at that time of the month. Doesn't matter to me as long as it's not gushing.

One of the chicks I used to make time with back in the seventies told me she liked it that time of the month because it made everything a little more sensitive down below. It was fine by me, it's all good even if it's bad.

We still talk, by the way...a couple dirty minded old gits from the hood....but I can tell you....if this was one of those incessant "Would you hit it?" threads. the answer's

damn right I would....

I don't think this was the pretext for the topic . . . . more likely Tommy Tentpeg and Mary Jane Rottencrotch wanna get it on, but don't wanna be 'protected' and don't think she can get preggers whilst menstruating . . .

I mean, look - the TO's only 16-20 . . . that's Detective ANCFlyer's first clue that I'm likely correct  silly

Short answer: NO

Unless the woman has a MAJOR hormonal dysfunction, the time of her period is when her hormones (LH and FSH) have fallen down (thus the descamation of the endometrium, a.k.a. menstrual flow) and are only beginning to rise again, eliciting the maturation of the follicles and the new cycle.

HOWEVER, some women have long periods, and the end is marked by only "spotting", with very little loss of blood. In these days, if there is ovulation, the woman is fertile.

As a rule of thumb, a woman is fertile between the 9th and the 16th day of a normal 28-day cycle (the first being the first day of menstruation). The graph below might help you understand it.

Cheers

Alex

One of my Australian/Canadian Housemates in Cork used the "Snooker Rule" for that: If the pink is blocked by the red, go for the brown

That is probably what the textbooks have told med students for ages, however:

Researchers showed that 2% of women started their fertile window by day four of their menstrual cycle, and 17% by day seven. Day one of the menstrual cycle is the day that menstruation begins. More than 70% of women were in their fertile window before day 10 or after day 17. Women who regarded their menstrual cycles as "regular" had a 1 to 6 percent probability of being fertile even on the day that their next period was expected to begin. This leaves few "safe" days for natural birth control methods such as the "rhythm method."

Why not? I used to be one of those who wouldn't poke a woman on her period, but that ended with experience.

I might need to learn. It's getting a bit frustrating to go for so long. I remember when I was single and it might be a few weeks at a time without any action. Now that I have it at my disposal it's making me twitchy to not get any.

Yep... although it does smell a little bit, but if you don't pay attention to it, and as long as you don't do Oral, its all good.

25 Zippyjet : Ask the Spears girls! Those two seem to be quite the fertile ones and should be authorities on the art of getting knocked up!
26 Mham001 : That can be ok too, I only go low enough to hit that sensitive spot...above the fray.
27 Zippyjet : Don't knock it till you try it! Getting one's Red Wings can be a milestone on the road of life. Does a body good.
