Who's interested in being temporary hicks in the South, toting guns, shooting steel plates, having some good food and great company? BTW, I am a Full Time Hick/Spic.

The dates are roughly 11 OCT or 19 OCT. The week before is NASCAR's Talladega race, so forget it, no rooms to be had. The dates can be adjusted up or down.

So who's in?

Any ideas?

Two questions:

1) What all from my collection do you guys want me to bring?

2) Who needs a ride?

Is that a trick question?

Can I do the Steel Plates with an MP-5?

Well, you could always get the very difficult MIA - DFW - BHM routing, and have the plane go tech on you at DFW... You never know with airlines.

Only if I get to do it with a Saiga-12.

I'm in.

What about the idea for changing the venue to MIA or someplace? I'm not against the idea of BHM in any way, but I'm open to the idea of different meeting places.

Miamiair and I have discussed this behind the scenes too. Any suggestions? Anybody got a GOOD range and live in a place where there are a few other activities and good places to eat? Unfortunately, the good range here at MAF is not visitor friendly and nightlife in MAF....well....sucks.

I guess we could go to the Commemorative (Confederate) Air Force Museum. Hmmm.... And if we did it one the same weekend as the big AirSho.... Hmmm..... Mexican food, Bar-B-Que....... Hmmm.... Maybe I need to talk to the range directors.

Edit: I should also mention that we came to the conclusion absent a better suggestion that BHM isn't too bad.

The range I have access to is in BFE. It is very, very very spartan in ammenities: it has a port-o-john and several canvas covers for shade. We organize shoots out there all the time and bring in everything we need for the day; from BBQ, to coolers, chairs and tents. And we can use tannerite.

It is roughly 15 miles south of my home, and I live well to the SW of Miami (near KTMB). There are numerous watering holes in the vicinity as well as good restauruants, but we would not be near any of the hot spots that first time MIA visitors would want to see, such as SoBe.

If the consensus is you guys want to do it down here, that is fine by me and I'd be happy to set it up. But, the BHM FOP range is several orders of magnitude nicer than the place down here, and I don't mind doing it up there again. If we do it at BHM I am seriously considering driving up there as I can bring more toys.

I doubt that the FOP range will allow tannerite, but we can ask. I have three cases (Can we set it off in a 5 gal pail???)

That was about seven pounds of tannerite...

And you can't see much of it in the video, but that is the range I am talking about.

I have a separate question for our more educated gun experts here. I was talking with a friend from ATL yesterday and he was telling me about a pistol his father owns that he can't find any information on. It's a WAC (Women's Army Corps) issued 22 auto that looks like a scaled down 1911. His father says that it was developed as an alternative to the .45 so they'd have something that the average woman could handle (yes I know women who do fine with a .45 but don't shoot the messenger). Anybody know anything about this?

Wow, you sure stumped me on that one! I have not heard about that pistol although as you probably know there are .22LR conversions for the standard 1911 pistol. Have you ever seen the pistol in question and do you for sure know if it has a smaller frame? The reason I ask is I am thinking maybe the WAC was just using a standard 1911 with a .22 conversion.

Absent any other info you might find on teh interwebs, I'd make a call directly to Colt if I were him. Colt is usually one of the most helpful firearms manufactuers in getting information on their older products.

I'll check with Mike to see if he's absolutely sure on the frame size, he did seem certain that it was smaller though.

In the meantime, looks like I ought to be able to send Colt a check for about $75 and get enough parts to build me one.  Smile
