The Back-Up Beeper

For the past three days, there has been a construction crew just beyond our back wall installing what looks like a 16-inch water line. But there isn't much operating room between the wall and a steep drop into a retention pond. That means when the big wheeled loader and excavators need to reposition, pick up a new load or unload a truck, it's *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*....

On Tuesday nights, I work a side job with an office in an assisted living mid-rise. My duties allow me to sleep for about six hours. The garbage truck allows me to be awake for a sizable portion of that time. The street is rather narrow and the dumpsters for the strip center next door are difficult for him to access, requiring a six-point turn in and another back out. *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*... Just to piss me off, I'm sure, he uses the mechanical arms on the front of the truck to shake the dumpster a few times. What an unholy racket!

The same old folks warehouse has an old folks bus, which is - I guess - about a few stickers away from an airport parking shuttle bus. It, too, is equipped with a back-up beeper and is often driven by a State-certified, perfectionist nincompoop who can't seem to park it straight in less than eleven attempts. *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*... It interferes with my post-lunch nap on Thursdays.

Thank God I no longer work nights, or I'd soon be hearing the back-up beeper on the medical examiner's body car.  irked

What inventions grate on your nerves?

The Chav. I'm not quite sure if they were invented, or if they just somehow evolved, or rather un-evolved, but they really get on my nerves a lot and as a result they should ALL be shot - it's quicker than hanging and as they are animals after all, slightly more humane.

Whoever invented the 'This program has performed an illegal operation and will shut down immediately' command should be shot as well, then shot again just for good measure due to the severe nature of their hideous crime! I'd also like to meet the person who master-planned Paris CDG airport... just what were they thinking!?

When I lived in uptown Seattle, I lived in an apartment where mine was in the alleyway, and the skip-drivers used to do that as well, every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 8:30am, right on the nose. It was them and the one picking up the recyclables, with the sound of massive amounts of breaking glass. It was excrutiating.

In high school it got on my nerves hearing that word and it still does. I do not know about others, but where I come from, the preps are really discriminate and think they are all that. Thank goodness my g/f feels the same.

The message you were about to post is too short and probably not of any higher value to the topic at hand. You should think long and hard before posting a message in this forum and make it detailed and a valuable addition to the topic discussed.

Can't agree with you there.....After I read that, I looked over at my beagle, who happened to be staring at me with those big, brown eyes......I just can't hate him, no matter what he does. (Like running away tonight, with me having to chase him down...twice.)

The person who devised ENGLISH COMPOSITION II should be hanged! I hate that class. It's a loathesome waste of time.
