Howdy all,
Today is a sad day in Steeler Nation as well as in the NFL, as legendary announcer and voice of the Pittsburgh Steelers has passed away today at 79. I have watched a couple of videos paying tribute to an extraordinary and unforgetable person. He was the voice and pride of Pittsburgh, and he will be greatly missed!
Rest in peace, Myron Cope!
Yoy! DOUBLE YOY!
you can see videos of him at www.nfl.com. It's one of the top stories...
Do not bring stranger girt into your room. The stranger girt is dangerous, it will hurt your life.

May everyone raise their Terrible Towels in memory this evening. Mine is out in full force.

I have a feeling the entire city of Pittsburgh will have some sort of tribute to him. Pitt is going to pay their own tribute to him by having people bring terrible towels to the college hoops game at the Peterson Center to honor Cope. I think tomorrow I will wear my Big Ben jersey along with the terrible towel to pay tribute to this guy. He will be missed!

Last night went to Total Wine and bought a bottle of Iron City which I drank in Myron's honor. Every Steelers fan I know, even the ones who thought Myron's voice was annoying, was sad to see him go.

He was quite a character. RIP Myron—I’m sure the Steeler faithful will continue to wave their Terrible Towels in your honor.
Cope was a real unique guy—of course, I have to admit that in the later years everytime I heard his voice or heard him exclaim something on a soundbite, it was pretty grating. Another one of the old school guys passes away, only to be replaced with some ignorant vanilla, vapid, TV slickster. Ah, we’ll miss you Myron.

Yeah, I have to admit that as well, especially in 2003-2004 around the time he retired. I think it was his illness that actually forced him to retire, and it was sad to see him go! If only he would have been able to hang around for one more season and he could have called the Superbowl one last time and to see the Black and Gold Pride bring Lombardi home, one last time.
I loved his voice tho. There was something in his voice that complemented his shrill tone, and that was passion. I think Bill Hilgrove is an excellent commentator, but nothing -- no one even comes close to what Myron Cope was!
And of all times to lose my fricking Terrible Towel!!!

As the son of a Pittsburgh sports fan, and now one myself, Myron's voice has been part of the soundtrack of my life. He's always been there since I was little, on the radio show, Channel 4 commentaries "This is Myyyron Cope... On... Sports", and the Steeler Games. A true character and a helluva sports mind.
I also have a new appreciation now as a caregiver to my girlfriend's autistic son, of his long devotion to helping those with Autism, even signing the trademark rights to the Terrible Towel to an organization that cares for autistic and special needs people, which has amounted to millions of dollars that could have been his. Even now, the family asked donations be sent to that organization (which cares for his own autistic son) and an autism foundation in lieu of flowers.
