If Barack Obama's elected he'll be the first president not born on mainland U.S. This still applies to Article 2 of the
Consitution and Obama just qualifies...barely. He was born in 1961 just 2 years after Hawaii became a state.

Not that I agree with him on much, but I went to the same high school as Obama, Punahou School.
I honestly never thought anyone from Hawai'i would ever be President in my lifetime, but I guess I never considered someone who left to go to college, never came back and got into politics in a larger state, Illinois in this case.
It might be cool if Sen. Obama set up his "Western White House" in Hawai'i. One can dream. One thing is for sure though....He'd visit us more than any other President (his family still lives here).
AND, just to allay the fears of the original poster....my Grandparents were born in Hawai'i in 1918 and 1924 and were born US citizens, as were my parents (born 1948 and 1951). The more interesting situation is with McCain since he was born on a US Military base in Panama, though a law passed by Congress in 1790 makes him elligible. I'm pretty its all a non-issue buts its always interesting to learn a little more about our Constitution.
