Are there some cool Head of States ?

I'd say Schroder (though I don't like him) , Clinton , Sarkozy , Helmut Schmidt , Chavez even Bush is cool .
The opposite would be : Merkel , Zapatero , Lula , Jintao ..

What do you think ?

Head of government or head of state? The former is a political figure, the latter typically carries on mostly ceremonial functions. Exceptions would be countries in which the head of government and the head of state are fused in the same office, e.g., the office of the presidency in the United States.

Having said that, for me, the coolest head of state always will be, for all times, King Juan Carlos I of Spain.

I supposed this question would come up ... I mean the most important Person in the Country .

For example : Germany : Merkel though Köhler is Head of State

Spain :Zapatero though Juan Carlos in Head of State

I'm sorry I should have been more clear !

I know many people dont like him, but I really think Putin has to be up there

From Time Magazine:
"No one is born with a stare like Vladimir Putin's. The Russian President's pale blue eyes are so cool, so devoid of emotion that the stare must have begun as an affect, the gesture of someone who understood that power might be achieved by the suppression of ordinary needs, like blinking."

I would agree, I think he is cool as hell . A cold warrior who moved into politics ..errrrrr "business" and was able to rise to power and collate Russia in many ways . Plus make a huge amount of money ! Dont really agree with him, but he seems like a formidable character indeed.

even Bush is cool

Of course President Bush is cool !, I have heard many people including some who hate him say they were surprised how "cool" he was when they met him.

Bill O'Riley for instance , said that his visit with President Bush was really relaxed and that he is a great conversationalist and funny as hell. Last week I posted up the Geldof piece , I think it shows the President is not the person so many make him out to be. I love the the beginning of the Geldof article when President Bush asks Geldof "who wrote your book for you "? (laughing) and Geldof replies .. "who read it to you Mr. President" ?(laughing).

Others.....
Bertie Ahern
Sarkozy
King Abdullah (Jordan)
Olmert (Israel)

I'd imagine that Bush is a pretty cool guy, but I'm not so sure about Sarkozy and Putin. Sarkozy is very thin-skinned, I believe, and takes himself incredibly important. And Putin seems to be rather cold and tense on a personal basis.

I'm throwing in Stephen Harper because of his love for the game of hockey. Seen here shaking hands with Sid the Kid at the NHL Awards ceremony. He's also penning a book on the history of the game which I'm sure he'll release once he's done with politics.

trudeau was pretty 'cool' in my eyes, just because he wasn't fearful for speaking what he really thought...sometimes certainly left political correctness behind

also some other things from wikipedia.

Trudeau led Canada through some of its most tumultuous times and was often the centre of controversy. Known for his flamboyance, he dated celebrities, sometimes wore sandals in the House of Commons, was accused of using an obscenity during debate there, and once did a pirouette behind the back of Queen Elizabeth II.

as for how he ran the country, cant really say, i wasnt even born then. he did a lot to keep canada together which is good in my eyes.

I agree there. Of the current heads of state (oh he's still ruling things in Russia!), I can't imagine one cooler than Vladimir Putin. I do not agree with him, but I do respect him.

And damn, name the head of state who can without shame appear like this!

:D

Head of government or head of state?

In most if not in all Presidential systems, like all countries in Latinamerica, the President is both, Head of Government and Head of State, and Commander in Chief of the armed forces.

Former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien was very cool and seemed pretty laid back in public. Not scared to have fun.
