So mortar attacks on US installations in Iraq have decreased dramatically.
One reason is the overall dramatic reduction in violence across the country. The other reason is the new systems US forces are employing. One of them is the new C-RAM, which is like the CIWS Phalanx guns on naval ships, designed to shoot down fast moving anti-ship missiles. The C-RAM, coupled with a high tech radar, tracks incoming mortars and destroys them in mid-air, prior to the mortar landing.
See the following video:
And a close up view of the system:
Another reason for the decrease in mortar attacks may be that there are simply less insurgents, who are alive to fire the mortar.
See the following video. **BE FOR-WARNED! THIS IS A MATURE CONTENT VIDEO. NO BLOOD OR GUTS OR ANYTHING, BUT DEFINITELY NOT FOR WEAK PEOPLE.**

Let me guess, the idiot dropped the (his) last one nose first into the tube? I think I could just make out the fins sticking up from his hand when he dropped the round in. It also looked as if he was not bothering to do any aiming, just the fling the bombs loosely into the direction of the target.
I think Al Qaeda (oe whatever group this idiot belonged to) is scraping the bottom of the barrel to find "fighters".
BTW, what was it? A 60mm mortar? Or a WW2 British 2" one?
