Been a fan since the mid-70's. I've always liked their basic, straight-ahead, guitar oriented hard rock sound- It was always about the music to me, and not the appearance and theatrics; although as a teen in the mid-70's all that stuff added some allure. They sounded best when poor and hungry in their 1973-1977 time span IMO. After that period, until the make-up came off the image seemed to try to overtake the music and it was tough to take them seriously. -- BTW, 1983's 'Creatures of the Night' is musically one of their best- they shed the late-70's/early 80's "poppy" sound and make-up ( and unfortunately Ace Frehley ) and put out a great, no-BS metal album.

Count me in!
I saw them in concert in 1996 at the San Jose Arena when they came back with makeup on.
I like both the 70s and 80s stuff. It's really two different bands.
So what if seems like a gimmic, they're having fun and so are there fans. There music is about having fun, getting laid and partying. Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons are great rock vocalist and understands there role as rock stars.
They are much better than those 'drama queens' like Bono (U2), Kurt Cocaine (Nirvana) and those other annoying brats that get waaaaaaaay too much credit!

o.k., that must be the right place coz i found some KISS fans. but i must say that i dont like the album "without make-up". for me KISS is simmons-stanley-frehley-kriss with make-up. but i think they will never come again on tour . when i saw them first time it was like a dream, it so unbelievable to see them leve when you saw them only on pictures before.
here's my KISS top5:
2. HARD LUCK WOMAN
3. DETROIT ROCK CITY
4. ROCK AND ROLL ALL NIGHT
5. SHOUT IT OUT LOUD
does anyone knows the KISS MY ASS compilation? its really good, some bands cover kiss-songs. there is a band called "todd the weel sprocked" (or so...) with a damn good country styled coverversion of hard luck woman...
