Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my desk.... Okay, I want one! That is just incredible. I love the Marauder as it is, and I was hoping for a 2-door version, but a convertible is way beyond my expectations. I've been saying Ford should build these things for years. A Mercury Marauder/Ford Galaxie pair would have given the Impala SS some real competition. And the supercharged 4.6 is icing on the cake. Although I read in Popular Mechanics today (Mar '02) that somebody is trying to market a Crown Vic police interceptor powered by the Triton V-10 from an F-350. I'll take one of those also. Now if only we could get a real gearbox to go with it. Nothing like rowing through the gears in a big American car. I wish I was driving in 1964.

I wish they would drop in the 5.4 V8 which is the same engine block as the 4.6.
The Galaxy 500 is a great idea. They should also have a Lincoln Mark IX, Zypher, Cosmopolitan version of this car too.  Smokin cool

This has to be the dumbest thing I've seen in a while. Take a car nobody buys, and make it into a convertible. Brilliant!

Hoffa, how can it be a car nobody buys? The Marauder hasn't even made it to dealer lots yet. And the convertible is a concept. I love it. But I don't honestly expect to ever see it available for sale. But I can dream, right. Don't take that away from me!

I don't know, it resembles Fords cop car too much for me to wanna buy it.

And isn't the Marauder just a Grand Marquis w/a different nameplate? I think that is whats meant by Hoffa when he said that the car doesn't sell.

It's more than just a nameplate change. More horsepower, firmer suspension, bigger wheels and tires, etc. And, of course, the Marauder badges. It's meant to be like the Impala SS of 94-96. If you called that a fancy Caprice, it's owners would slap you silly!  Nuts

While I love the car, the "two doorness" of it leaves me somewhat skeptical. Look at where the rear doors used to be - it's possible that someone had some fun with Photoshop on this one. I hope I'm wrong beacause it's gorgeous. Another reason why I don't think it's real: it would compete too much with the new T-Bird.

Anyone with any knowledge about cars can see the Marauder is a chopped Grand Marquis/Crown Victoria platform. That behemoth should have long since been retired, yet somehow has soldiered on to keep the 65 + crowd mobile. And now they want to make a two-door convertible out of it? Yuk. When will the American car manufacturers learn that bigger is NOT better.

BUY FOREIGN!!!

There's a reason cops pick Crown Vics over Camry's!!

Crown Vics haul ass, Camry's don't.

I like the new Marauder, I'd like to see any Jap or European car match up with any american car of the same price.

Ilyushin, I only said the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis doesn't sell. But these cars are EXCELLENT value for money: extremely spacious, powerful V8 standard, roomy and comfortable plus you get twice the space for what a suitably equipped Camry or Accord will set you back. Sure its a cop car, but if you can get over your dumb stereotyping you'd realize these are actually quite excellent cars and they do last long too (there's a reason these are chosen by police/taxi fleets).

The Crown Vic is one of the safest cars on the road. With all these honkin' SUV's out there, safety is important these days.

While I do like the car, the only thing I wonder is why it took them so long to come out with this design. The current generation of the Crown Vic is 10 years old.

Since we no longer have the Mercury brand in Canada, I wonder if we either won't get it, or if it will get a Ford name like the Cougar has.

Personally, I don't think this car is gonig to be woth what it will cost and who ever pays 60K for a Mercury, in my opinion needs their head examined.

Plus, it is pretty ugly.

For those who assigned a price to this car, I think you are all far off the mark.
I doubt there would be a 100% mark up on this car because it's a convertible. The current Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis list for $25K. I doubt this will go for more than $32-36K. It will not cost more than the new Thunderbird ($41K) and certainly not more than the Town Car ($40K).

Although that Marauder looks kinda cool, it's still not very original. I'll take my 96 Impala SS anyday over that car. And for those of you that insist that the Impala SS was just a Caprice with fancy wheels, I tend to look at the Caprice as a dressed down Impala SS.  Smile

Now don't confuse the 96 SS with the crappy 2000+ Impalas. Those are just Camry's with Chevy badging. I am talking about the 94-6 Impala SS!!!

'Fly likes to fly, and supercharged Ford power's a good way to take off.

I ain't old yet, and I like the Crown Vic / Grand Marquis (which still needs to have a de Sade trim option package).

Well hell Superfly, I was all set to come up to San Francisco to pick up my new Maruader 2 months ago. You seem to have forgotten to get back to me though so I cancelled my flight. I'm still amenable to accepting delivery on one though. Not to be picky but I don't want a convertible.

COboeing777. You are so right. What idiot put the Impala SS name on these "things" they sell now? They are about as super and sporty as a Corolla. Flash with no substance. Not to denegrate a Corolla, it's a fine throw away car. Gets you from A to B quite well but still a throw away car.
