Hulu: Watch TV Online Legally

A new website was launched yesterday by News Corp and NBC called Hulu. It allows anyone to watch select movies and TV shows from FOX and NBC online. Of course there are commercials in parts, but not nearly as many as actually watching TV. This is similar to what many networks have on their own websites now, but here NBC and FOX have combined their efforts into one site. The quality seems to be good as well. I just viewed parts of October Sky and was impressed. I may have to watch the whole thing tonight.

Good quality free movies. Great deal!

And guess what. Another stupid American site that doesn't work outside the US. "Unfortunately this video is not currently available in your country or region". First Itunes, now this. F***ing stupid pointless copyright crap.

Well if you get an American Proxy then you are sorted. We have had the same stuff over here in Blighty for a while now by the names of 4od (CH4 on Demand), Sky Anytime and BBC's iPlayer. ITV also have something similar. Very cool stuff indeed, quite handy if you miss a program too!

Whilst in Bali (oh yea thanks for looking up my booking!) we managed to download Hollyoaks so it does work if you have the brains to get around it. Then again, tis you.  Wink

There's plenty of free proxies out there, though quite a lot of them are somewhat dodgy in terms of how fast they are. Google "free US proxy" or something like that, that ought to get you started

Personally, I'm a sucker for using YouTube - especially to catch older stuff that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere (stuff like HIGNFY, Iron Chef, some Discovery Channel shows etc). For regular series, I use BitTorrent.

EDIT: Forgot to add, here in Denmark, both major TV networks broadcasts live online as well as having on demand video. One is absolutely free & usually quite stable, the other is pay-as-you-go and usually a pain in the ass. During last years Le Mans, I paid for a 24-hour subscription (since they only showed a few hours on the normal channel) to watch all 24 hours - and of those 24 hours, I think I managed to watch 2, maybe 3 hours where it was actually somewhat stable. By comparison, I've been following the 2007 IAAF World Championships and the 2008 IAAF Indoor world championships on the competitor, for free, and in superior quality  Yeah sure

That's a good plan Batman. As he says though there are many dodgy ones that won't work though. Can't you just get one of your servants to do this for you though?

Yea we too have a few that are pay as you go type things where you have to pay to download. Other shows are free though which is good. Ours are pretty stable though.

Dude, take a chill pill. There are easy ways around that and besides, there are a thousand websites with movies and TV shows that you can stream for free. Google is your friend.

Itunes was and still is an incredibly lame and useless program, so I won't argue with you there.

As for Hulu it worked OK so far for me - watched a bit of K-PAX and it let me choose to watch it with commercial breaks or watching a movie trailer at the beginning and then the movie with no breaks, so that wasn't too bad. Quality was ok but nothing special. Great movie, too, one of my favorites. I highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't seen it.
