Well, after my other thread got deleted for various reasons, I decided I should post this thread inspired by mod Diamond. I want to know cheaper alternative methods to the CD. I do NOT want to participate in any illegal activities nor do I want to get in trouble. What are your methods and much do you save compared to buying Cd's. In addition, in end please state whether you think it was worth it or not. Thank you for your contribution.

I think a USB drive is required for you dear lad.

You can hold upto 8gb with today's technology!!

Invest in a USB memory drive. You won't regret it!

They are really cheap now! A good place too look is www.amazon.com

CD's are soon going to become a thing of the past!

Fellow mod? Congratulations on your promotion.

You could always find a cheap cassette tape drive.

External Hard Drive. Lacie 500GB goes for about 139.00 CDN.

That coupled with a 160GB iPod and it's a beautiful thing.

Well, I have 1 with 2GB and another with 500MB. I know they can plug into my schools computers and mine but how much music on my 2GB?

The average song requires 4 megs. That should be about 50 songs for the 2 gig and 12 songs for the 500 meg.

Great math!

Average song of 4 megs means a 2GB should hold approx. 500 songs. Most won't actually hold quite that much though.

A 500MB player should hold approx. 125 songs.

Thanks guys.

How does this hold up to the iPOD and other MP3 you plug into your car.

It totally depends on how many gigs the ipod you're talking about has. It's all about the GB and not whether it's an Ipod or some other player.

More GB = more songs to be stored on the device.

Most don't "plug into" a car unless you have a special jack (maybe that new 18-wheeler cab you want will have that) to plug into. most people use a short distance FM transmitter or a cassette tape adapter.

As for which iPod, I have a great tool for you (its probably one of my favorite):

Most company trucks do not offer that as standard equipment. Most likely Cd player. Darnet no MP3 or Ipod. Shi% What is the kinghunter going to do? File in a mx request.

There are quite a few ways to buy a single song without having to get 11 or 12 duds along with it.

Here are a few ideas:

1. iTunes (you can preview all versions of a song before selecting one to buy)

2. Rhapsody (same as above)

3. Amazon.com - look for 'cd-singles'

4. Thousands of .mp3 blogs, many are focused on certain genres of music and will allow you to download only specific tracks.

5. The artist's website may offer his/her/their tracks for sale.

6. The artist's record label website may offer his/her/their tracks for sale.

Blank.

best way, IMO, because you can use any music you download from there on any mp3/audio player, no restrictions at all. Unlimited computers, devices, etc.

And higher quality than iTunes.

Takes the cake, for me!

iTunes Plus titles come without DRM as well and in 256kbit/s AAC, which is significantly better than MP3 at the same data rate. So the quality on iTunes Plus is in fact better than Amazon while most halfway current players of any make can still play it.

Thus far, however, most major labels except EMI withhold their titles from iTunes in DRM-less format for tactical reasons.

just a minor detail  Wink

Amazon has most big labels... mainly because... well... they're amazon!
