A Virgin Trains map placed Buxton in Devon and Macclesfield and Bakewell in the sea.

The mixed-up map was designed to attract rail passengers to the Peak District.

It also places Chatsworth House, Derbyshire near Eastbourne.

But the promotions manager for Chatsworth House was good humoured about the mistake.
"We are delighted to see we have ended up near Eastbourne, as the Duke of Devonshire owns quite a lot of Eastbourne," he told the Daily Express.

A Virgin Trains spokesman said: "The map's not correct because of a printing error but when the leaflets are replaced we will ensure it's done properly."

Bob Price, head of economic development for Derbyshire Dales District Council, said: "If Buxton has been moved to Devon, then I hope the climate improves accordingly."

A spokesman for Macclesfield Borough Council said: "We are enjoying our new status as an offshore island and hope it might mean a few tax breaks for our rate payers."
