To Stop The Flame Wars And Low Quality Posting....

I think it is apparent to everyone that the non-aviation forum has taken a nosedive in quality over the last couple of weeks. There are more than one contributing factors, but there is a way we could stop most of it..

That is that, If you open a topic that you find immature/lame/boring/sad, Do not respond, just rate the post with 1 star, or if it is in clear violation of the forum rules suggest deletion. That would be a start, because alot of the flamewars are caused by people just saying that a topic is crap or whatever, and then someone else disagreeing.

And, if someone has said something that you disagree with, then just suggest deletion. I don't meen something that you don't think is correct, because normally you can just say, 'I disagree, blablablablabla...'. As long as you are not forcing your opinions on others.

So often we see low quality posting, endless flamewars that start up out of nothing, and end up completely off topic and in personal attacks. This can all be avoided with just a little sensibility and maturity.

I too am a culprit, but I have said that I shouldn't (and normally don't) get involved with these sort of things so much, as most of the times they shouldn't be happening in the first place.

Anyone who feels the need to turn my argument on my head, and excuse themselves of any blames, need not reply. If they do, I will not respond and just suggest deletion, if you have nothing mature to add and that will be of some use to the argument.

I think I just started a flame war, wonder if the people here are grown up enough to avoid that...

Oh, okay, don't respond to a thead like this. That means that the low quality will still be around, just not in so much quantity.

So let me get this straight...if we agree with the post we should reply...if we disagree we should ignore and recommend deletion.

What's next...holding hand around the vetual campfire and singing politically correct campfire songs?

I would like to thank Dan (EGGD) for his attempt to make the forums better.

We do however, have people like Rolex01 Ammunition who post garbage like this.

Of course you are not bullying anyone KROC. Anyone that is not part of your little crew will get blasted by you and your sarcasm-filled post if you don't think his cool enough. Boo Boo dude.

"Boo Boo dude"? My crew? Blasted by my sarcasm filled posts? Yeah, because I am the only one like that around here right? Matt D is like that, and Matt D is not a member of my so-called "crew".

Well, I must go nap now. Reading your post is like taking Nitol.

So a Matt D post is like taking Nyquil, Nitol, a pint of Gin, and a tranquilizer than isnt it?

i did not post garbage!! the simple fact is- this has been said many many many times before, and especially in the last couple of weeks by people like 747-600X amongst others. I agree EGGD was trying to do a good job, but it is becoming a bit repatative now, the task of posting posts telling people to stop posting or replying, i had a lot to say but felt it would not be worth it as i would be adding to the every increasing arguement against posting worthless topics!!! suggesting deletion and letting otehrs know was my way of getting rid of this problem.
I used to like the non aviation forum, i agree that the standard and quality has deteriorated recently. but it seems to be the same people- posting completely irrelivent posts just for the sake of posting irrelevent posts (millivanilli comes to my mind) and those posting tryign to stop people from posting irrelevent posts e.g. EGGD- amongst others.
It has been said many time not to reply on such topics but whats the point of repeating the same thing by bringing up a new thread! why not reply to another one of the MANY threads posted already to stop these posts!!!!
im just glad that the rest of the forums still have a degree of quality to them. I hope this continues.
The only thing i can suggest is remove this forum! maybe that was everyone will be happy......... BUT NO....people are gonna complain whatever happens, so i dont know what the suggestion is!!!!
now i pass it over to the rest of u.......
(cant live with it, cant live without it)

I knew what would happen because about 90% of the non-aviation forum are to immature to post without going completely off topic, and end up in a giant war, which would probably end up in someone getting deleted and/or deleting themselves.

And I did say, if you don't have anything to add that is constructive, don't post, yet look how many people have posted trying to start flamebait, without saying anything constructive, just doing exactly what I thought that the idiots on the forum would do?

Ammunition, you think people trying to keep the non-aviation forum is decent is just getting repetitive, how about the constant 'Shaft' or 'this topic is lame' or 'you are such an idiot, you don't know what you are talking about..' isn't?

Something needs to be done, I'm just giving a suggestion...

btw. Most of you are missing the point, I didn't mean that if something you disagree with, you just ignore. I meant, that if there is something you disagree with, and you are just going to post some crap, then don't bother. If you are going to put a decent point or argument across, that isn't a personal attack then post..

so u anticipated this all??? why post in the first place then... when the outcome was known, im not having a go at u EGGD, i respect u as a fellow airliners.net member, i agree with what u r saying, and well maybe a cote on the homepage would help,
JOHAN- please have the next vote on the home page as follows:
Non-Aviation:-
1- delete completely!!!!!
2- restriced access (putting strain on the already troublesome servers)
3- delete every user who posts garbage immediately(and by this i mean irrelivent posts, like packed soy sauce or irrelevent postings- like stop posting)
e.t.c the general idea is there
but why should airliners.net have to go through this- to cover both sides of the story- why not check the posts made to date and delete any user who posts lame threads/posts!!!
as i said before i dont know what the solution is!
but one thing i know for sure is that johan and the airliners.net team could do without this kind of CR@P, so those who have any concern and a true passion for aviation, and also some common sense will make this a better place, ive been coming to this site for more than 2 years and recently joined, there are many more people who have been here a lot longer, but to see this kind of rubbish in such a short space of time is beyond me!!!

Just to back up my point, lets review one of the forum rules...

No criticizing of other users or posts!
If you have a problem with another user in the forum or if you dislike some of the posts, use the "Suggest Deletion" button! If you don't like that, you can e-mail your humble administrators on the issue. You do not and I repeat NOT post a message on how you find the topic or user irrelevant/boring/childish or whatever. Topics dealing with other topics or users (and that includes yourself) will be deleted and the poster will risk being banned. Remember that a topic that is replied to is automatically moved to the top, so don't reply unless it's a worthwhile thread.

And, if someone has said something that you disagree with, then just suggest deletion.

I have two things to say:

1. Frankly, I could care less if the Non-Av forum lives or dies. It's kind of fun, but believe me, I've got other stuff to do.

2. EGGD, I completely agree with everything in your original post, except for the above. I don't think that the mere fact that someone disagrees with something merits deletion, in-and-of itself. However, everything else you said, I wholeheartedly agree with.

I've asked myself the same question many times. To be honest, I think is because of the anonymity that a site like this provides. Most of us wouldn't say half the stuff we say to each other here if we were in person. I've never really gotten into any flame wars, but I think I'm just going to watch myself from now on. I'm all for a good discussion, but the arguing isn't accomplishing anything.

PS, you wouldn't happen to be the user formerly known as Aloha 737-200, would you? Just askin'.

EGGD, I respect your attempt to help clean up this forum. I to tried http://www.airliners.net/discussions/non_aviation/read.main/188531/, but did not seem to get any good feedback. Apparently this seems to be the case:

Yeah, topics like this are quite common, especially about the bickering. Double topics are something that happens on any forums, I think they only get annoying when 2 happen within a couple of days of eachother (ie. The supposed Ghost picture).

You shoulda searched for this first Galilee!

Perhaps according to your standards and those of some of the other users, this topic may well have been best in the aforementioned topic.  Smile

Yeah somethings kinda fishy NormalSpeed. I remember Aloha's profile having the very same photos, and also remember the quote, "soon to be hawaii" in his profile.

I have nothing against aloha, I think he's a pretty cool guy, but I can't help thinking that that is Aloha 737-200! Nice to have you back if it is.

Anyways, EGGD: Don't even try man. I remember like...a year ago when this place was awesome, we would get into political debates all the time, and they would be decent too. We used to have meaningful topics, unlike today when we have posts like, "how do you crumple your toilet paper when you wipe your butt" and "I need comebacks" (no offense to the posters, im just using examples)...

I for one don't CARE how airliner.net members wipe there butt. I'm just so upset because this forum used to rule, but then all these people started getting deleted, and ppl just leave because it sucks. I for one am getting rediculous emails from a.net because some pansies can't take the heat when I call someone a "jerk" during a debate, or if I offended someone when I said, "I agree RealHigh" in the "how do I send money to Israel" thread. It was my opinion, but oh no, someone got their feelings hurt and clicked "suggest deletion," boo freakin hoo. Sheesh. I'm gonna go get some espresso now bye.
(Watch, someones gonna cry about this post too)
