In the last Mass in Sydney the Pope will announce the next city which will host the WYD. I think it will be Madrid, first because it's in Europe and next WYD should be in Europe, then because the catholic Church doesn't like Zapatero and his policy, so it's a good chance to "show the muscles".

Dont know where the WYD will be but with regards your comments on the Catholic church not liking Zapatero I dont think he is that bad. Church needs to be seperated from state forever!! Too many people including here in Ireland have suffered abuse under Catholic church control....

Actions of his first government have included withdrawing Spanish troops from Iraq, a controversial negotiation with the armed separatist group ETA, the creation of Spanish Courts to deal with Violence against Women, legalizing same-sex marriages and a program of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Why not make it Rome, problem solved then all the catholics from around the world can go there and leave the rest of the world in peace. After all is that not what the Catholic church wants. I say this as what is happening in Sydney at the moment is garbage , no group be they another religion alternate lifestyle or athiest can walk the streerts and say what they feel. This is not the way Australia is so go home benni and take your views with you.

Rome already had its WYD in 2000 and all politicans are 100% addicted to the Catholic Church (and its rules). Unfortunately we don't need to be "addressed", but Madrid at the moment for Catholic Church is a priority problem to fix.

So what has the Catholic church done for us homosexuals . please advise as I am not aware of anything they have done?

As for a sporting event fair chance I would not have said a word as even the Olypmics did not cause the amount of trouble this WYD has as far as transport road closures and distruption to normal every day living. Now if it was another G8 summit then that would be a different thhing, but thats a topic for another day.

PS
You may think I am an idiot , but we all have a right to say and think what we like in a democratic society, you may not like my views and I may disagree with yours.

Looks like Madrid.

In any case, I'm hoping His Holiness will one day be able to celebrate Mass in Hawaii. The Aloha Stadium can handle 50000... Not just for Hawaii, but for the Pacific and the world! Father Damien will soon be on the calendar of saints. Yay!!  Big grin

absolute disgrace the catholic church and it's hand-picking of victims that he'd meet with this morning, get out & stay out of Australia, disgraceful the way he dismissed the Foster family who travelled thousands of miles to meet him, yet he meets with Sophie De'Lezio & Lauren Huxley.

Foster lost a daughter to suicide because of the sexual abuse...pfft, no respect for that church at all.

Let's not try to marginalize which family has suffered more pain, or whose life is more valuable. It's rather inconsiderate. While I believe the Pope should have met with the Fosters, I believe the Pope was not aware of situation. For the Fosters, now is not the right time. The Pope is a man of honor. It will be in due time, and soon it will. The results of demanding an apology, most of the time, is not effective.

horseshit, Pell made it perfectly clear that he couldn't get everyone who wanted to meet the pope about this matter, these people made the same distance trip as the pope did so they could speak with him yet that disgrace that is Pell seems to ensured that they didn't meet.

the entire process was a fucking disgrace.

The Catholic Church doesn't like Zapatero because his government legalized gay marriage, among a few other things.

If you will recall, the Catholic Church used to be finely and intricately wound up in all European governments a few hundred years ago. I am not sure that the Church would agree that it should have been separated from the State. That move robbed the Church of a lot of power and money.
