Ugh, I live in Georgia and I want to apologize on their behalf! Things like this make the southeast look like a bunch of backward nomads. I'm sure Atlanta and other urban areas of the South may differ from the Rural South. I'm surprised Charleston got such a bad rap, because I have always heard they have a very liberal position on sexual orientation.
I can't say I laughed when I read the article. It was more of an "are you kidding me?" feeling. Especially about the principal that resigned instead of accepting the Gay-Straight Alliance. In a way, I look up to him--it's nice people are still willing to ''fight'' for their beliefs but come on...get real!

Eternal darkness we all should dread. It's hard to party when you're dead.

"Dude, you're so gay!" or "Damn, that show was so gay." or "I have never seen anything so gay in my life." ... I never knew those were compliments! Well, learn something new everyday.

Well, the sort of people who would be offended by this are also the sort who have made the term "that's so gay" derogatory in the first place. So they're getting what they deserve IMO.

I just find it ironic. All the gay-haters suddenly get real quiet once gays start shelling out money. And since most gay men are 1) college-educated and 2) single, we tend to have a lot more disposable income than our straight brethren.
And suddenly, gay money is just as green as straight money.

Aaand this came to you when????
You're only going to see this in magazines such as Instinct, Out or Out Traveler. It's not like Larry Craig or Jesse Helmes is going to be selling it on Liberty St. in Charleston.
It won't be in Columbia's mainstream daily paper.
Seriously, this is proof positive, South Carolina has waaaay too much time on it's hands........
Ah, Summer, Fenway Park, Boston Red Sox and Beer.....

They showed these adverts on the London Underground which was when all the fuss kicked off. Stupid move by the conservatives because us guys
1) like to travel a lot
2) like the more expensive side.

If the ads made it to London it's a good thing. As liberal/open-minded as Brits are, I'm really surprised about the uproar. I'm kind of surprised we haven't seen them here in ATL, but there's many a place I haven't been round to here lately.... But we do see gay themed ads occasionally in MARTA stations and venues in Buckhead and Midtown.

Quoting MSNBC.com: Oran Smith, president of the Palmetto Family Council, a conservative activist group in Columbia, the state capital, said that at first he thought the ads were an Internet hoax.
“I think with today’s economy, we have to be really smart with our tourism dollars, and South Carolina’s market, very clearly, is the family-friendly market,” Smith said. “So if we want to spend our dollars in a way that’s wise, we need to go after our market, and our market is families.”
Yes, Oran. The people with all the disposable income in today's economy are families. The same families who are having a hard time paying their mortgage, filling up their minivans and trading down their grocery purchases will bring all those tourist $ to your state.
Much more lucrative than the gay community, which has an estimated $800 billion of buying power in the US each year, and the majority of couples have no kids to support, fairly high paying jobs and lots of discretionary spend.
Real smart. South Carolina, like the rest of the south, can lay waste and continue to decompose while the rest of the world moves on and evolves.

And the only reason we go to South Carolina is when we're passing through it.
*Disclaimer* just a friendly jab at our neighbors to the South in SC....even though we're clearly better up here in NC.
Quoting EWRCabincrew (Reply 2): Who fu**ing cares? If this brings money (much needed in a crappy economy) to your state, so be it.
I think some people have too much spare time (the ones in an uproar).
Who's in an uproar? No one on here (at least yet). Yea, I bet some locals of certain religions that dominate the South won't like it, simply because that's the way the South can be, but just laugh and move on.
