Father of two, grandfather of two, World War II fighter pilot, Silver Star winner, mentor, teacher, gun instructor, business owner, NASA engineer, and life long best friend, Tom Overton, turned 85 years old today!

I am lucky to be home today to celebrate today with him.  yes   bigthumbsup

June 1944. Papa New Guinea. He'd already been shot down, saved his gunner's life, and made it back to his outfit. He was 5th Air Force, 387th Squadron, 312th Bomb Group.

Well Happy Birthday to your grandfather. I thank him for serving this country not only in service but in a program that helped bring America together as well in an amazing space program.

On a side note, PNG is a pretty neat place. Have you ever been FX? I wonder how well your grandfather remembers it and to what kind of country it is now with canibalism outlawed and the huge movements of tribal people going to the cities haha.

Guys, thanks so much. It really means a lot. There was a time in my life where I didn't have a father, and my grandfather filled that roll. He means the world to me and I expect him to be around another 15-20 years. He's living proof that I am what I am today.

Congrats to your granddad on a long and fulfilling life, and here's wishing him a long and healthy future.

My grandmother turned 90 back in May. She still lives on her own, about 5 minutes away from my parents. Both her siblings have passed away, and most of her family from her generation as well. It's hard on her - she's been ready to pass on as well for a few years now - but we all appreciate her still being around. I've always been very close to her (she moved to the US when I was 2 years old or so), and I'm looking forward to seeing her when I go home for a vacation this Thursday.

There is nothing more worthwhile than spending time with your family - especially the older ones. When you're young, It always seems like they'll be around forever, but you just never know.

I appreciate the words and wish your grandmother a belated 90th.

My grandfather just got a check-up at Scott and White in Temple, Texas and I'm please to say they tell us he'll be around for at least another 15 years with his suburb health.

I wouldn't say I ever took his company for granted as I love hearing the same or new stories from the great war or the space program over and over, but today really was a different deal spending his birthday with him. He's my hero.  bigthumbsup
