Ottawa launches search for Franklin's ships
Ottawa-backed hunt comes as High Arctic melting increases danger of others finding historical prize

OTTAWA-- More than 160 years after Sir John Franklin's doomed expedition vanished in the ice of the fabled Northwest Passage, the federal government is backing a search for the Holy Grail of the High Arctic.

Environment Minister John Baird announced yesterday a $75,000 contribution from Ottawa for the effort to find Franklin's ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, last seen in the late-1840s.

In the grand scheme of things, I am not against $75,000 being spent to search for a lost piece of Canadian and world history...especially if they are worried about "grave robbers." Hopefully they are successful.

It would be interesting to see the condion the ships are in after that many years "on ice". that is if there is anything left that would resemble a ship,

There is a possible image snapped in secret Canadain location (ok the Wendy's on Airport road)
