A man who was caught on camera repeatedly punching a friend's sleeping baby has been jailed for six months.
The hearing heard how the child, who was bruised after being hit on the back, was found covered in vomit after the attack at a house party in Gateshead in May.

This is an unbelievable sentence for such a discusting crime.

6 Months?????? That is beyond ridiculous. Hopefully someone will hear of this in prison and give this jackass some real justice.

That's what I thought when I read this earlier. How can he get away with just 6 months. He'll probably be let out next week for overcrowding, or good behaviour. Judges are to lenient nowadays. Bring back the good old days of discipline.

Six months is all that pos got; How about a retrial and the judge give him 6 years. A baby should never get hit like that period. I despise people like that.

Six months for beating a baby? That's an outrage, and a display of incompetence by the court. The guy who beat the baby should be beaten up himself and be locked up for at least 60 years.

What he did is no worse than murder, rape or sexual abuse of minors. Even if the victim was a baby, there will be psychological scars that will hurt for the rest of his or her life.

In his case, make an exception. Child abusers of any kind are not liked at all by the general prison population.

What does the prison population like? People who do crimes like this are in prisons with other killers, rapists, pedophiles and sick scumbags. What gives them a reason to beat on someone else when they've done just as bad. I never understand this.

It goes back to the old adage, "two wrongs don't make a right." Beatings and rape are just as unacceptable in prisons as they are in regular life.

I guess some of them still have a very very tiny shred of decency in them, which makes them dispise people who beat up kids or simply commit a sexual crime.

I certainly don't advocate violence, but I believe in the addage of what comes around goes around. Do you remember that sicko Jeffery Dahmer (sp.) the cannibalistic nutjob? He didn't make it very long in prison. Someone killed him. I won't lie, I didn't lose any sleep over it.

And some correctional facilities have payed dearly for not protecting these inmates. Congress passed the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003, which sets a national zero tolerance standards towards sexual offenses in correctional facilities. The commission right now is holding hearings on the proposed standards.

In many jurisdictions in this country the individual would just get probation with no jail. Had a case here in Maricopa County, Arizona, a lady who was already on probation for child abuse, was caught not once but twice at a Wal-Mart on camera beating the shit out of her kids, a she just got probation again.

That's pretty pathetic in my opinion. As sensitive as this country has become about offending people with words, we can't even protect people that can't defend themselves. Does AZ not have any sort of Child Protection Service? i would figure they would get involved at some point.

CPS in Arizona is a joke. Low pay, numerous staff vacancies combine with a high turn over rate, and high case load numbers, well you can picture the final product.

To be honest, if people are in prison legitimately for beating/murder/rape, then they can all beat the living crap out of each other for all I care. If it results in having their sentence lengthened to at least half what it should have originally been, then all the better.

It reminds me of what I saw many years ago.. I was in a McDonalds in Tulsa OK. I was checking out Spartan School of Aeronautics. I was thinking of going there to get my A@P. This was back in 1984. I saw a woman who was getting increasingly pissed off at her daughter who kept going outside to the jungle gym.. I really didn't pay much attention I figured typical mother/ kid arguement. All of a sudden I saw this mother punch her kid repeatedly with a closed fist. I was taken aback for a second. The employees witnessed this also. I jumped up and grabbed the mother she tried to stike me and I put her in a headlock until the cops arrived. I have never even to this day ever had to intervene in a situation. Normally I might not have but this was a child. I try to not think of it because it makes me realize that this is only one of many out there and it depresses me.

Nah, if you're in prison and you get beat up or raped, you probably deserve it. A hell a lot better then the slap on the wrist the *cough* justice system hands out.

Not only that, but the records are sealed to the public so we don't really know what's going on within CPS. Back about a year ago, something like 3 kids under CPS supervision died-nothing has been released from the CPS case files, so we don't know much about those cases.
