Hey guys,

So I started my Piano Performance and Pedagogy degree on Monday. It's going to be a lot of fun, but very challenging.

Currently my professor wants me to play the following:

A Moszkowsky Etude From Op. 72 (The F Major stands out to me, but he suggests that I learn the first page of 4 of them by next week and decide from there)

A Liszt Bagatelle or some other shorter Liszt Piece

A Scriabin Prelude (Which I've already narrowed down to No. 11) Here's the audio:

Honestly, I love this Scriabin Prelude, it's a recent discovery for me, but very nice indeed I think.

I'm already set with a Mendelssohn Prelude and Fugue

And I need a Prokofiev Piece (Something under 6 min or so)

Other than that I will be completing the Saint-Saens 2nd Piano Concerto (or rather, refining it).

But we are also looking at the Rachmaninov 2nd Piano Concerto, which I've already started and Possibly the Poulenc Piano Concerto (not the double concerto).
Audio for Poulenc:

I assume that you are familiar with the Rachmaninov 2nd, if you aren't it's probably my favorite piece of music in all of music land for the piano.

And I need a great 3-part Bach invention, which I believe are also referred to as "Sinfonias"

My big problem is with Bach, personally, I don't like his music as it is rather dry and technical, so any recommendations would be great.

If you are familiar with Moszkowski, I'd greatly accept recommendations as well.

Thanks,

UAL

Edit:

The Scriabin needs to be from Opus 11

Are you having to memorize all of these? I have a hard enough time memorizing a short, 3 minute piece, and only one note at at time. :P

Yeah, must be memorized, unless you are playing a duet, or with an ensemble. Standard piano etiquette.

I know the Scriabin Prelude I chose doesn't sound hard, but it's in a weird key and the left hand is extremely difficult, but I think it's very rich. I think whoever is performing it in the audio could have been a bit more dramatic with the dynamics, but then again, big ole' gay me loves some drama.

"I just can't wait to be King" from The Lion King was in F# Major, which is a REALLY wierd key, but that was kids' range I guess. Of course, I can barely play it at a slower tempo in G.  Wink

Speaking of pianos, I just got my new PrP-800, and I'm loving it. Especially the Fazioli sound. And after not having a piano for so long, I'm quite rusty, but I was still able to pick up it up most of it off the bat again.  Smile Plus, having kept my sight-reading skills good by playing the cello helped out a lot. Also, since most cello music is in C, G, A, D, with occasional stuff in E, F, B flat, E flat, and A flat (so far,) I haven't had much issue getting back into those keys again.
