WASHINGTON, D.C. — DEVELOPING STORY:

A man is under arrest in Washington after an improvised explosive device, a rifle and some ammunition were allegedly found in his jeep, Capitol Police said Friday.

The man stopped to ask police for directions near the Capitol building at about 11 a.m. EDT Friday, at the intersection of 2nd and Independence Avenue Southeast, according to Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider.

Just wait until his lawyers come up with the 4th amendment rights were violated. The guy was simply asking for directions, but to where...that is the key here....

No one drives around with a rifle visible in plain sight while going up to talk to a cop.  Confused

What kind of idiot plans all of that and not figure out how to actually GET to the Capitol. And why in hell would you go and ask a police officer?

EDIT: for using the wrong spelling for Capitol. That's what happens when you A.net and study at the same time.

Luv2fly, you sure do come up with some stupid comments, but this takes the cake. You don't like guns, we already know that, so just shut up!

AirframeAS,

I don't think there is a 4th Amendment issue here...

Police officers are allowed to conduct an inspection of a car if they see something that looks suspicious (i.e. something criminal) using their naked eyes...

I would have to agree with sv7887's assessment that this would qualify under worlds dumbest criminals...

Luv2fly,

I don't think all gun owners are stupid -- I think *some* gun owners are stupid, but certainly not all. That's like saying all black people like barbecued chicken and watermelon -- which is not true, as I know black people who are vegans.

Who said he was planning on attacking the capitol, or anywhere ,according to the article, for that matter?

I was responding to HIS personal attack on me, and all other intelligent, law-abiding gun owners. If he had worded it "some gun carrying criminals aren't too smart", all would have been fine.

Nowhere. It's called "media hype". Just about anywhere in DC could be considered "close to the Capitol" or "close to the White House".
