There have been many posts in the past praising certain bands/singers etc, but what is your favourite song and, more importantly, why?

For me, Jamie Cullum All At Sea. When I got Divorced and embroiled in a never ending Legal battle for my Daughter I listened to this over and over. Although it family and friends were very supportive, it was my problem and I was on my own and this song helped!!

I like several different ones, but if I had to pick one I'd go with Dirty Day by U2. I love the music, especially how it sounds ominous.
Some of the others include Devil Inside (INXS), Are You Gonna Be My Girl (Jet), and Boulevard of Broken Dreams (Green Day).

Damn near impossible for me to pick one song, so I'll list a few. I also tend to listen to the music much more than the lyrics.

NIN - "Hurt" - speaks to me personally about the horrors of addiction.

Metallica - "One" (among many others) - I'm a huge Metallica fan. Can't really cite a particular reason why. I built my guitar and bass chops playing Metallica, though.

U2 - "Exit" - very powerful music, and not your typical U2 song.

Rush - "La Villa Strangiato" - awesome instrumental....and about the only Alex Lifeson guitar solo I actually like.

ACDC - "Have a Drink on Me" - just good old balls-out rock n roll. Can't listen to this song without a smile on my face.

There are plenty more....but that's enough for now.

No. There is no such thing as "one good song." There is so much music out there and so many people with such a wide range of taste, it is impossible to pick just one. Five, maybe. Here goes:

Total eclipse of the heart by Bonnie Tyler
Flying in a blue dream by Joe Satriani
Fantasy by EWF or Martha Wash
Children of the sandstorm by Darude vs Robert Miles
Four Seasons by Vivaldi

Oh, believe me... there are many many others.

Metallica - One from the "And Justice for All" CD. Just love the way they tell the story.

I can't say I have a particular favourite, but one with a definite reason is

"Julia" by Chris Rea (having my own daughter who seems to bound around everywhere, the music is her to a T)
