The Touch has a integral speaker, not sure about that!

Except for the new form factor, more flash memory storage and the ability to show a widescreen display, the new nano is not much of an improvement over the 3G nano. I'm keeping my 3G nano (but did upgrade my iTunes to Version 8.0.0.35).

The new nano looks like a very nice upgrade over the previous one.

The Touch getting volume control buttons, remote control capability, sound recording (as the nano) and a speaker (most probably just for the occasional earphone-free gaming session, audio book or video) is all well done, I'd say.

I'd still want more than 32GB of memory, though!  hissyfit
Too bad the Flash manufacturers don't seem to play along just yet.

The Nano's damned nice now - plenty of colour choice.
I'm glad to say I didn't hang around on buying my iPod classic earlier this year though, nothing really moved there - I think the classic has reached the end of apples innovation and is going to disappear sometime soon.
I rather like the new genius functions on iTunes 8... gives me something new to play with.

Kev.

Don't like the speaker idea... nothing more annoying than some kid playing his music in the train or something.

I suppose these new iPods won't do much to lower the price of the older touch?  Smile

I actually like it. Maybe the kids would play their music in the train "only" through the iPod speaker - as opposed to through a full featured stereo set blaring away (yes, this actually happens around here, and nobody dares saying a word).

All in all, I like those upgrades, especially the iPod Touch price cut and the new iPod Nano software (I don't really care about the form factor, I liked the previous one and I like this one as well).

Had that on a Train to London today, asked him once politely to turn it down as it was in the "Quiet Zone" (i.e no music, no phones etc in that carriage). He told me to f*ck off, obviously to impress his Girlfriend. I then told him if he didn't turn it off I would ram he stereo down his throat closely followed by my Timberland Boot. That seemed to do the trick!  Wink

The one's I loathe are the one's like I had on the Train who are white, but try to be black - if that makes any sense!!!

He I think he was trying to look and sound like P.Diddy, but looked rediculous and sounded like a blocked vacuum cleaner. He also walked sideways like he had just wet himself.

The whole image works for a Brother, but not a white boy!!!

Spring!! I guess it's a good thing I got a Toshiba for now while waiting for a modern Macbook.
There are some nice prices on the last gen iPod Touch in the Apple Store outlet for the US.

What now?

I think they mean Northern Hemisphere spring, as the USA is now Autumn. The new iPod nano looks good. Hopefully may get one to replace my 6th Generation iPod Classic which i've only used 1/4th of the space on it. Great choice of colours, nice screen too.

Does Apple bring out new iPods every year? A new iPod nano has been released every year.

Rumour update:

US users flock to laptops as Apple preps Oct. 14 Mac upgrade - Mac - Macworld UK

Quote:
Daring Fireball's John Gruber last night claimed an insider source had let him know to expect the company's new range of Mac laptops will be introduced at a special event on October 14.

"Speaking of Macs, contrary to speculation, there were no announcements regarding new Mac notebooks. Such speculation was misguided; Apple has held an iPod/music special event in September or October every year since 2001, and, to my knowledge, has never once used such events to announce new Mac hardware. Those of you holding out for a new lineup of MacBooks will have to wait until October 14, according to sources who, as they say, are familiar with Apple’s hardware plans."

I think this is really just to interline it with the iPhone, which has speakers. Apple want to keep the iPhone and Touch in the same hardware sophistication area (just without the phone), so they can both use the applications to the same level.

I think tha the new iPods will do very well, especially for the Christmas season.

What I would like to see is the Classic move to the touch platform, but keep its HD. When I was traveling on business I would use part of my iPod as a data back-up drive. Plus it would have OS X and the AppStore available to it. That should add a few years to the design.

As for the new nano - might eventually buy one when the Gen 1 iPod I gave to my 6 year old granddaughter dies. Unfortunately that would also mean one for the 4 year old grandson. It's a lot of fun being a grandparent!

As for me, my mobile phone died a couple of weeks ago and I went with the iPhone about 6 months before I would have liked to. Have downloaded some free games for the grandkids and like that basic design.

I have currently have Gen 5 80GB iPod and with this new announcement I'm thinking an upgrade is in order. I intend on keeping the 80GB as a small harddrive though. The new iPod Touch looks good, a speaker is one thing I've wanted in an iPod for ages. I actually have a little speaker that wows the crowds and is very cool, not the best quality of course but I didn't buy it for that.

Does anyone know where's good to buy one from for cheap? Would the Apple Store in Chicago be cheaper than other places?
