I am going to be in Oxford for 6-9 months fairly soon, and I was wondering if anyone who has been there before / is currently there could give me a couple of tips or just general info as to how the place is going to be? I heard from some people that there is a place called G&D's that I must try.
Oxford is a relatively small place to where I am used to (New York / Hong Kong). . . but I heard that the nice scenery makes up for it.
Just as a personal note. . . I hope I get to stay in the US until November so that I can vote!!

Oxford is a nice place. It's a bit more upmarket and generally is full of oldish people. If you want to drive a car into the city centre itself, you'll be crippled by the cycle routes and bus lanes, it's awful really.
The scenery is nice and while I've never heard of G&D's myself, I'm guessing it won't be too long before you make it to the M40, Northbound is about a 30-45 minute commute to Birmingham and probably a tad longer to London depending on how stationary the queues are that day.

First thing: Lucky you!
Second thing: Take a video iPod...
Just kidding - I presume you're studying there? It's a lovely town to study in, just not as nice if you have to work there (because of all the students)!
I live fairly nearby (in Reading, which is 20min train ride away) and am currently seeking work in Oxford... it's that good.

G&Ds is amazing!! Really great ice cream cafe, does some incredible ice cream/smoothies/cookie things. I think there are two in Oxford now, the one I know is opposite Christchurch, Pembroke Street I think.
Oxford in general is nice but in recent years has expanded a lot. The centre is lovely with the colleges, but it is very much a fair-sized city with its associated share of dodgy nightlife etc.
