"Ray Boltz, who sold about 4.5 million records before retiring from Christian music a few years ago, came out of the closet Friday to announce that he's gay.
In an interview with the gay magazine The Washington Blade, Boltz said he came out to his family and some close friends in December 2004, but only now decided to go public with the news.
“I’d denied it ever since I was a kid," Boltz, 55, told the magazine. "I became a Christian, I thought that was the way to deal with this and I prayed hard and tried for 30-some years and then at the end, I was just going, ‘I’m still gay. I know I am.’ And I just got to the place where I couldn’t take it anymore … when I was going through all this darkness, I thought, ‘Just end this.’”
He and his wife of 33 years divorced earlier this year and are still close.

Quoting EICVD (Reply 3): If he knew he was gay since he was a kid why on earth did he get married!
The guy is 55 years old...times were MUCH different when he was younger compared to today. There are actually a few guys that I know at the bar I go to who are also in the mid-upper 50's who (to fit into society) had to live a lie for many years and be a heterosexual infront of everyone, one did live a double life though and would go for random hook-ups in the middle of the night or on business trips, etc. US culture has only started to really accept homosexuals in the last 2 decades or so compared to before when it was completely taboo. These guys I know all have ex-wives now and children (grown) and can socialize in a much more accepting environment compared to when they were young.
Also, think of what this guy puts out...CHRISTIAN MUSIC!! The people buying his product go to things like "JESUS FEST 2008" and are not very tolerant of the gay community.
I give this guy a lot of credit for doing this. He is starting an entire new life in his 50's, and potentially ruining his career...but he is doing it to be HIM. That takes a lot of guts.

Quoting Mt99 (Reply 1): How sad no? I feel for his wife and all the people he might have "let down" for being in the closet. I feel for him that he had to go thru so many years of trial.
You know, there have been several famous marriages in history between gay men and women who, for whatever reason, were OK just having a best friend and companion for life, rather than a sex partner. And were OK with their husbands having "other interests."
Oscar Wilde is one example. His wife HAD to have known he was gay.

Here are some of the comments from christianity.com, posted by a typical cross-section of brainless brainwashed assholes who can't think for themselves.
Quote: What can be said? We are known by the fruit we bear. So, being a great musician and exalting the Lord is not enough. Repentance is necessary. We read about a man who committed sexual sin in 1 Corinthians-the church was to reject him until he repented. Likewise, Ray should be ignored but welcomed back whenever he truly repents.
NavyMom (whose kids are obviously straight and thus righteous - well done them!)
Quote: I really hate to hear this news about Ray Boltz.Ray and his family need much prayer from the Christians from all over the world to get through this horrible news.So many folks are decieved in thinking that God created them to be homosexual which is totally false.God creates us with a free will to choose life through him or death through the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. This lifestyle is merely a choice and nothing more.I assume Ray has read the scriptures that states in Romans 1st chapter 32nd verse,Who knowing the judgement of God,that they which commit such things are worthy of death not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. You can't ignore this verse of scripture.I am not here to judge Ray or anyone else who so called "comes out of the closet".That isn't my job to judge, but it's my job to tell those that choose this lifestyle that Jesus wants them to turn from their wicked ways and repent.
JO (only complete arseholes quote Leviticus.)
Quote: Lev 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them
God condemns it. God would not make him this why as he claims.
he chooses to be this way.
It is a choice.

I've already known of two couples with coincidentally, two sons each (all who are straight), whose husbands were homosexuals. One of the two couples were still living together. How can this work?
The divorced couple's two sons were my friends; their dad was one of the first AIDS cases in Minnesota.

You people are out of your freakin' minds.
I mean, go ahead and have your fun, but I can't think of anything that'd kill a stiffy faster than looking down at some big dude's hairy back. The only thing worse than that'd be if he'd had two beers and a bologna sandwich an hour earlier.
Quoting TylerDurden (Reply 20): I'm guessing he was 'just about' to be outted by some publication or a family member.... which is typically why people all of a sudden feel the great need to give and interview or a press conference.
Look at Clay Gaiken (or is it Gay Aiken?).
Regardless of how they are 'outed', being true to yourself is important to self worth. When society ,as a whole, does away with archaic rules and labeling, people could be true, till then you get situations where people feel the need to fit in roles to suit others and not themselves.
