Last year I smelt what seemed like weed coming from my neighbors backyard and today I smelt something like a skunk smell coming from there slideing glass door, would there be any reason for a skunk smell when someone is smoking weed.

There're different types of weed, and all of them smell different. The more expensive, stronger stuff is actually called "skunk" in some parts of the world - though I don't know if it's because it smells like the animal, as I've never encountered one of these (though it does smell quite... potent. It can make your throat itch just by smelling it - I always encounter this on my trips to Amsterdam.
The cheaper, less potent stuff (usually the stuff people choose, I guess) smells completely different and less "aggressive" compared to the stuff mentioned above... so maybe they smoked the weaker stuff before and went on to the more potent stuff.

Quoting Pawsleykat (Reply 5): A friend of mine that smokes weed refers to all cannabis as "skunk"
The names refer to the pieces of the plants used to make the stuff smoked - "skunk" is the pods, I think, while "hash" is the leaves (or some other part).
Just so you guys don't think I'm a pothead - one of my friends smoke it on a daily basis due to medical reasons and I've been looking into the stuff for a remedy for migraine/pain and insomnia (it's bound to be better than all the pills I take now) - I'm still learning though.

Hash is the dried resin of the female buds of the plant. The male plants don't contain the infamous THC.
Grass are dried leaves of the female plants.
I just talked to my friend; "grass" is he part we call "hash" here in Denmark, while the buds are "skunk". I suppose how you define it is different from country to country.
Thanks for clarifying though! I'm still new to all this, obviously.

Male plants do contain THC, they just don't produce buds in which it is more heavily concentrated. Before the genetic engineering that has produced todays super-pot, it used to be that the leaves were always smoked. males and females were harvested together and buds were just an added plus(and very seedy).
Today's growers typically throw away the leaves, although they will produce a good high, they would also dilute the market.

I smoked the stuff occasionally when I was in university, but this is 15-18 years ago. I stopped smoking pot when I joined the aviation industry, because I spent too much time and effort on a profession I generally enjoy (even though I'm griping from time to time about the incompetence of my superiors) to loose it all for being caught with drugs.

I had a friend completely make an entire 10 story dormitory smell like skunk because he had several ounces of Sour Diesel, which is some straight kronic. People in the building literally thought a skunk was on the loose, but instead it was merely just some dank marijuana from California wafting about. That stuff would smell through bag after bag, only way to fix it was smoke it. Maybe your neighbors have come into a bit of luck are smoking some skunky ass dank.

Jeeesh, quit pretending you DON'T understand the question.
Skunk - Cannabis Indicus - broad leaves and very aromatic.
Standard - Cannabis Sativa - narrow leaves and fairly benign smell-wise.
Alright then, A.net resumes normal activities.......
