The US-based research company, Computer Industry Almanac, released its survey of the most wired countries for 1999. (Thought this might be of interest to this community.) It defines regular internet users as those who are over age 16 and use the Internet at least once monthly, every month. It includes people who use the Internet at work, home, or school. These are PER CAPITA rankings of the top 15 countries:

1 - Canada 42.8% use Internet
2 - Sweden 41.4
3 - Finland 40.8
4 - US 40.6
5 - Iceland 40.3
6 - Denmark 39.5
7 - Norway 37.9
8 - Australia 34.3
9 - Singapore 31.1
10 - New Zealand 26.5
11 - Netherlands 25.6
12 - Switzerland 24.9
13 - UK 23.6
14 - Taiwan 21.7
15 - Hong Kong 21.3

Worlwide average Internet use: 4.7%

That seems a bit off to me. I could've sworn Germany was in the top 15. Even Japan should be somewhere there. By any chance could I have the website?

Yes, I noticed a few (obvious) countries missing, too. No, I don't have the website. The company name is: Computer Industry Almanac. Their publication is: Internet Industry Almanac. Perhaps a search of these names might help.

AC_A340...home PCs in Japan are not nearly as popular as they are in North America usually due to space consumption concerns. Internet access is very expensive in Europe, in Canada usually you can get unlimited access for $15/month or less (about $10 us) or even get free access.

I guess that survey explains why there is a disproportinate number of Canadian users on this board
