Evening,

I need help with getting a band logo onto photoshop. I mean, I know I wouldn't be able to scan it because It needs to be very high quality, so how would I go about doing it? I need it because my band is going to start gigging soon and the standard Gretsch skin on the kit i'm hopefully getting (If you're interested or bothered.... http://www.curlymusic.co.uk/index.pl?browse=products&id=769&detail=3) isn't really a good look, so i'm looking at getting a new skin printed with my band logo on there.

I've googled a few skin printers and they need it in electronic form, obviously and i'm an idiot at using graphics programs  Silly Any help would be appreciated.

Don't understand that part, quality likely does not have to be as high as you might think.
What size and format is the original artwork?
Many A4 sized scanners will scan at several thousands of dpi and a competent PS user could upscale that if required.. highly doubt they would need to though.

You also have to remember that while you will be looking at the skin in good light from probably 1 foot away, the audience at a gig will be much farther away and won't be seeing it to the same degree of sharpness anyway.

Also, does the printer need your artwork in Vector or Bitmap format? What does your band logo look like anyway. Most competent GA's can recreate a logo in Vector format using Illustrator quite easily.

You can try photographing it with a decent SLR camera, but to be honest you're probably better off scanning - I have a fairly basic scanner and if I max the settings it'll quite happily produce huge files, with much much more detail than a (camera) picture could ever do. As others have said, increase the dpi to it's maximum and give it a go.

At the moment it's just a sketch in the back of a (lined) notebook.

The logo is (I can't describe this very well, i've only seen it once and it wasn't in the last week or so) is like lightening (sorta, not exactly but that's the best way to describe it) with the initials of the band over the top, and it's coloured in with markers... so not the best ideals for scanning it in  Silly

It's about 10cm square at the moment, and it's gotta be enlarged to fit on a bass drum skin that's 26 inches across (about 61cm) so it's going to be fairly big to start with. Obviously it won't fill the whole skin but it's going to be pretty big.

As far as i'm aware it has to be in vector format from either Photoshop or Illustrator. If you go onto http://www.customskins.co.uk/customdrumhead.html and look toward the bottom, the requirements are there.

If you can't scan it, no other input medium will work, you might need to get a GA to reproduce it manually in PS or Illustrator. Perhaps using the scanned sketch as a starting point.

Cheers

Sounds like you are going to need to hire a graphics designer to translate the sketch into a high quality image that you can use.
