Now i'm looking for some advice here folks, I'm planning on attending the 2009 Munich Beer Festival, so I thought that I'd come on here and get the ball rolling, I hope to attend along with some friends for a least part of Octoberfest 09. I would like to attend for the entire event but think that either the alcohol intake would kill me or that the bill at the end of the 3 or so weeks would kill me
So I have some questions from both people that have attended in previous years, and also Munich locals for geographic advice?
So here goes:
When do you think that the period of the festival is to be there, start, middle or end?
What kind of prices are the beers?
Rough guide to accommodation rates, hotels and campsites just in case?
Must see/do's for the festival?
What did you get up to for the festival?
Any other tips or ideas/info?
Is anyone planning on attending for 09?
I know that I've asked a lot of questions here but please i'm looking for some help.
For those that are considering going maybe we could start a list of attending members???
Thanks in advance?
:D
Must think up a new one soon, slow moving brain trying to get into gear ;)

Quoting MWHCVT (Thread starter): So I have some questions from both people that have attended in previous years, and also Munich locals for geographic advice?
I just flew back from Munich this past Saturday night after spending a week there for Oktoberfest. I am currently uploading pictures from my week there onto MySpace, I still have another 500 or so to go through, but feel free to check out what I have up there and hopefully I will have the rest up by this weekend.
Around 8 euros for a beer in the tent. Important, if you do not have a reservation in the tent, get there early, 10:00 a.m and grab one of the free tables that are not reserved and plant your ass down for the day.

A flight from IAD on AF and a hotel room at the Sheraton Olympic Park for a week Saturday to Saturday cost us $2,036.00 each
The top 3 things are Drink, Have fun, Don't be an ass. Other than that, you can try your luck on the rides outside the tents and see if you can hold your beer down.
Take the U-Bahn, it connects everything in the city very nicely, take a tour of the Dachau Concentration Camp memorial, go to the English Gardens and sit around the lake and drink beer.

I survived opening weekend this year, it was a very messy experience involving too much alcohol and too much swapping of body fluids

The starting weekend has a bit a a crazy vibe celebrating the fact its on, i have been told the middle weekend is the one to go to??? closing weekend is also nuts with ppl making the most of the dying minutes in which to get a beer

make it easy for yourself and try a tour group that leaves from london or you will need to be booking now. depending on your age will depend ont he type of tour. if your in your twenties a few good ones are fanatics, busabout and topdeck. they all have thier own websites or u can even checkout deals in tnt travel section http://www.tntmagazine.com most of the companies off accomodation only or travel only as an option too
Get in early is a must do, specially if your there for the opening day, expect to be lining up, the halls also lockdown when full, but its easy to get a seat outside. Go to the Hofbrau hall for sure, its full of aussies qiwis and americans and has an interesting tradition involving loosing your pants, but also try check out all the halls.
info on halls sideshows etc can all be found at the offical site http://www.oktoberfest.de/en/index.php most halls also have thier own websites
if your setting up your own accomodation dont forget to check availablility of public transport, i stayed within short walk of a tramline and it made the weekend very easy
Monday will be your day to really explore, saturday and sunday keep your ass on the seat or u will loose it. dont forget to experience octoberfest at night, its very easy to get drunk and tired and head home at 5
Well, if you visit Munich, try to take a look at the "Deutsches Museum". While its aviation branch is not that big (it is in Oberschleißheim, not in the main building), it is one of the most impressive museums worldwide.
The Maß (= 1 Litre) tends to become 1 EUR more expensive every year. I would expect around 9 EUR next year. This is actually pretty expensive, as you could get it for 6 EUR at ordinary festivals. However, money is not what you should be short of anyway.

Quoting IliriBDL (Reply 4): We should do a MUC '09 meet for the Octoberfest. haha
I actually think that this in not that bad of an idea, on two fronts, 1. what a place and occasion for such a gathering and 2. It would be an excuse to celebrate my 1st A.net birthday
for those that have provided awsers so far thanks, because they have been great and only hightening my salivation at the idea of attending, i'm planning of driving over from the UK to make a road trip out of the experience with my mates so I think that either the options are a hotel near the action and putting up with the cost or getting away from the action and public transporting it in.
So maybe it should be
Attending
