Quoting CPH-R (Thread starter): .. and what do you know, 18 seconds in - it's the Stig in a Bugatti Veyron on the Top Gear Track
Too short to tell if it really was the track, but even if it was, I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't, yes, DIDN'T end up as the fastest car around the track. Maybe top 5.

TG is honestly one of the best shows on tv. love the reviews(i think they are actually interesting!), the challenges are always great, and even though i don't know the celebs they are often interesting to see go around the track. I can't wait for this season as usual, it is one of the best shows on tv, even though it really isn't on tv here(delayed by months at least).
As for the veyron, who knows. TG's track is a power track and the veyron has it in spades. However, the track isn't all that suited for big cars like the veyron. We all know the veyron is very very fast, but i can't really remember reading much about how it handles. anyone know?

I expect that it's not the fastest car around the Top Gear track.
It's not as if I've driven a Veyron - or any Bugatti. 1001hp or not, I'd imagine that the Veyron is too far from its optimal operating envelope to take the top spot here. On the other hand, maybe the AWD and huge power will make up for the possibility of the car being suboptimal for this track.
Just my speculation. Although I don't particularly care for the Veyron, I'd be happy to be wrong. In fairness, I've never seen a map of the Top Gear track. If anyone has one I'd appreciate a link to the track specs/map.

True, but I doubt that Top Gear would spend more time on the Veyron, let alone put the Stig in one, unless Bugatti / a private owner let them put it around the track.
Also, I personally wouldn't be surprised if it came in top 5. Yes, it may look big and fat, but the reality is that it has a ferocious acceleration, a lot of torque, a lot of grip and - according to mr. Clarkson - it handles like an Audi TT. So while it may lose a bit on cornering speed, it can afford to brake later and accelerate much faster.

In one of the Bugatti episodes (I think the first one, the Veyron vs. a Cessna) Jeremy Clarkson said it handles "like a big Lotus Elise", and if you know your cars, in regards to handling it doesn't get any better than an Elise (ok ok, maybe the Exige )
Why if one person has an imaginary friend they're crazy; if many people have the same imaginary friend, its religion?

Did anyone see the Three American cars in the Salt Flats?....and in Las Vegas?

Well the thing is that Bugatti does not allow it's Veyron to be put in some sort of competition against another car. So Bugatti did not deliver a car for this type of stunt.
I guess the customers of the Veyron would be really pissed off to pay 3 times as much and somehow not be the nr.1 in any field...
I am sure it understeers severely on a track...

Doubtful. In one of the producer's blogs it was mentioned that they would keep them around 6 to 8 episodes long. I forget the reasoning but it was something along the lines of having fewer better quality shows than having more mediocre episodes.

The great thing about Top Gear is they actually use celebrities, not people who's career is on the slippery slope.
I cannot wait for this season to start, i just love the way they do stupid things, crossing the channel and stretched limos! Jeremy Clarkson is a genius!

Yeah that sounds right. I think it's somewhere in Andy's (the producer) blog in topgear.com

Pity about the new Top Gear Australia. Quite frankly its a good attempt but the guys just aren't funny (I'd almost say at all!). Still in the 1st episode it was amusing when they got that Toyota airborne over a sanddune!
