There are some countries out there in which the governments won't let their citizens come, go, and move freely. What are all the countries that are like this?

Every country is like that as far as I know. If you commit a crime in the USA, you may not be able to leave the USA.

I think you will have a hard time getting a passport or VISA if you have a DUI.

What I meant was that a normal person can't get a visa to leave to country or move out. Every country has restrictions, but I mean just all out not allowing people to leave.

To answer you question, North Korea is a country that doesn't let there citizens leave the country.

Cuba has a lot of restrictions but they do let some of there citizens have visas to leave.

Some others that come to my mind are Vietnam, China, and Iran, but I don't know for sure, or even that well. Also, what about Laos. Laos is communist, but I don't know if that matters or not. Is there anything in Africa?

Most of the time US won't grant yo visa if you apply from a foreign country, alot of people get rejected even if it's ok with their own country.

Only because of the sheer amount of people that want to get into the US... and then there's the problem of illegals that are taking good people's places.  Sad

Well, don't worry about another country letting you in. Just say countries that don't let you out. Thanks though!

I know of some folks in Mainland China that cannot leave, they must get Gov't permission and that is rare for some folks.

Iranians may leave Iran freely. My father has several employees from Iran who fly in and out of Iran every year without a problem.

I also know a Cuban Family living here in Doha and they left Cuba legally. When Castro visited my school last year they talked to him. I don't think that an illegal emigrant from Cuba would like to talk to Castro.

Actually, I'm sure an illegal emigrant from Cuba safely in another country would just LOVE to give Castro a piece of their mind!

Zimbabwae(sp!) wont allow many foregin nationals to enter and i dont think allows their citizens to leave either, i wouldnt be surprised if iraq was like that either.

Not if they're white, Go Canada. They are more than welcome to leave Zimbabwe.

That whole Zimbabwe thing is interesting. I had no idea they were like that. So far these are the countries you guys have told me:

Iraq
North Korea
Libya
Zimbabwe
Cuba (mostly)
China

Are these all correct and are there any others? What about Vietnam?

Nice lists until now. In every country is always a question of money and relations.
Even in North Korea. I have seen many North Koreans checking in at Beijing for flights into Pyongyang. Also many Libyans are living in Europe and moving around freely. If you have money or are something great in a party or have an important job you can leave when ever you want. But its the same as in most European / North American countries, if you don't have the money you can not travel. Because nothing is free...

China you can come and go as you please now.

But, let me quantify that. AS LONG AS you haven't done anything to piss of the government (and there are lots and lots of things you can do there to accomplish that).

My wife is Chinese, born and raised on the mainland. While working, she decided to go overseas (to Germany) to earn her masters (this was right about the time she met me). No government paperwork, nothing, for her to leave the country.

Now she lives here in the US with me, again, no paperwork from China for her to do (but I guess with all the paperwork for her from the US more than made up for it!)
