George & Laura Bush Buy $2M Dallas House - 8500sf

According to the Dallas/Fort Worth (TX) Star-Telegram newspaper, the President Bush and the First Lady have purchased a huge home in the swanky Preston Hollow section of Dallas - and there is a rumor that the U.S. Secret Service has purchased the house next door to the Bushes for $1.6M USD for their protection detail command center.

Big version: Width: 512 Height: 237 File size: 43kb
New Residence of George W. & Laura Bush in Dallas?

"The White House issued a statement Thursday that the Bushes have bought a home in Preston Hollow but didn’t release any other information about the home, saying the Bushes don’t have occupancy of it. But officials did note that the Bushes, who will also spend time at their Crawford ranch, lived in Dallas from 1988 until January 1995, when George W. Bush became governor.

A woman who came out of the house at 10141 Daria Place — a one-story, 8,501-square-foot home recently bought by Robert McCleskey, the Bushes’ Midland accountant, that is believed to be the future Bush residence — became upset when news photographers took photos of the exterior....

(The property) next to a vacant $1.6 million house under contract, news reports say.
Speculation is rampant that the Bushes would live in the home at 10141 Daria Place and that the Secret Service might occupy 10151 Daria Place, a 4,684-square-foot ranch home listed under the ownership of the Joan Northway estate. The two homes back up to properties owned by Gene and Roxanne Phillips and Tom Hicks, who bought the Texas Rangers from Bush and other investors in 1998, news reports say. Hicks also owns the Dallas Stars."

What do you mean? All I know is that if I was a neighbor, I just got some awesome security for my block. Awesome!

Good job W. Looks like a good house. Hope you find rest when you get out of office and return back to a more "normal" life. (I know it wont be all that normal but not as hectic as President)

Is this correct? The houses are next door, but the numbers are 100 apart???

It's in a part of Dallas I know well, it's a very quite area. You basically have an all-girls Catholic school down the street and very little commercial or through-traffic. Probably sound-proofed well from any noise that leaks over from the DNT.

Looks like a good place to enjoy the city life and stay off the beaten path at the same time.

That quiet wealthy neighborhood and lack of vehicle traffic is probably just what the Secret Service wanted - the Bushes new home is supposedly on a cul-de-sac, which makes monitoring people and vehicles easier for "the men in black".

They will probably close off the cul-de-sac and put up a manned guard gate like they did here in Houston for Bush Sr.

Not trying to nitpick, but there are two schools closer to that house than Ursuline (the all girls school)...Pershing, a Dallas Public elementary school, which is located right at the entrance of the cul-de-sac, and an all boys school that is technically non-sectarian, but somehow has an episcopal chapel, and which happens to be my alma mater. Big grin

Madame Concorde--that vast lawn probably doesn't belong to Bush's residence---both the Hicks' and Phillips' residences are absolutely huge, so much so that the Phillips property resembles a wild animal park.

Interesting, you can "walk it" with GoogleMaps Street View feature:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=...%2C%20TX&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

And for a good overhead aerial view you can see it at Microsoft Maps.Live site:
http://maps.live.com/#JnE9eXAuMTAxND...M3NDYxMzI3JTdlLTEzOC45NTUwNzgxMjU=

And if you want property lines and to see other info, go to Zilliow:
http://www.zillow.com/homes/map/10141-Daria-Place-dallas-tx_rb/

Wonder how long till Google removes the street view (if the Bush's buy the house).

That's a relatively common occurrence in the States. My next door neighbors and I are 60 numbers apart and we could play catch from our respective front portches.

Funny thing is that it often means the area is also zoned for multiple units (condos, apartments etc.) on one property. At least that's how it is in my city now (used to be different).

Did you read any of that info? From the article:

"While the Bush property certainly appears comfortable, it is dwarfed by the 20-acre estate it abuts. That sprawling property (seen here) is owned by billionaire investor Tom Hicks."

So basically you navigated away from the original article, found a more sensational picture, and posted that. Three cheers for responsibility. The real house Bush is supposedly buying:

You'd be surprised how many neighborhoods in the states are gated communities. It's quite common actually. Many members of my extended live in these gated areas. Hell even my off campus college apartment complex is gated with an attendant there 24 hours... All it adds is an extra 15 seconds or so to open the gate...
