Chris Nolan has signed up to direct his 3rd Batman movie. New additions to cast include Eddie Murphy, Shia Lebouf, and Rachel Weiz. The Riddler was suppose to go to Johnny Depp, but instead, Murphy gets the nod. Comments and speculation welcome.

Oh god... Eddie Murphy as the riddler... I expect the worst.

And this dub voice in German is just horrible. Wait the voice died but the replacement is even worse...

Hmm, I can't say that I find Eddie Murphy all that great to be honest. Johnny Depp would have been marvelous. I thought he was spectacular in Sweeney Todd. Not surprising though, looking at IMDB he has a lot going on.

Really happy about Rachel Weisz, think she is a superb actress. I don't know about Shia, I didn't like him in Indiana but that film was pretty weak as it is.

Cannot wait regardless. The Dark Knight was simply outstanding. I would say however to take this with a pinch of salt. The Sun is a...unpredictable...source.

Last I heard Nolan announced (literally less then a month ago) that they haven't even started to write or even brain storm the new Batman movie, as long as saying that under no circumstances will he ever use Robin... so I place this information as being highly in question.

Now, ALL that being said, I will say this: When Ledger was announced for the Joker people exploded with laughter... questioning if he was even close to right for the part. So if this is true, then I will at least give Nolan a chance to see what he can get out of Eddie Murphy, because he proved his tastes right with Ledger.

True, he deserves the benefit of the doubt here. Heck, maybe he can do for Murphy what Tarantino did for Travolta with Pulp Fiction.  Wink

But I have to say, as dreadful as Batman Forever was, I really liked Jim Carrey's performance as the Riddler.

eddie murphy as the riddler?  Sad hes really been a struggler since the 80s...i cant imagine hell be any good but as others have mentioned, christopher nolan has worked magic before.

shia is a strong actor and really commits to his roles, so i think he might make a good robin (if this is really true).

I take it Depp has too much on his plate to be able to fit in "Gotham". "The Rum Diary" is supposed to start shooting in March (finally), and his name has been attached to Tim Burton's next film "Dark Shadows" (as in the cult TV show), which begins shooting sometime in the Summer of 2009.

Eddie Murphy as The Riddler definitely intrigues me. I think he can pull it off, as if you have seen "Dreamgirls", he can definitely play a character with a dark side to them.

Bringing in Robin, bad idea. To me, the character really doesn't fit the tone of the previous two films. So unless this Robin turns the character on its' ear, bad move.

I hope the rumors are false. I don't think he would be a good choice...But I couldn't imagine Heath Ledger as the Joker either. And boy was I wrong about that.

You beat me to this point. I believe my response was: "Wait..... the gay cowboy from Brokeback Mountain? Are you kidding?"

With the Batman series they are really scraping the bottom of the barrel... No thanks.

My hope is that it doesn't go the way of "Batman and Robin" with George Clooney. A good actor, but a bad fit for the role. And the plot and, well everything about the movie really, was awful. So far in this series, the villains (R'as Al Ghul, Scarecrow and Joker) have been great. As long as the villains don't become too campy and comical, it can work. I have heard rumours of the Penguin. I don't think that will work either (Batman Returns anyone?)

I dunno - Murphy may be a stretch, but I'm not so quick to dismiss it. I have yet to see Dark Knight, but i plan to. I was very impressed with Batman begins, and it sounds like Dark Knight is everything the hype pans it out to be. Now the interesting rumor to me is for a future installment of the Batman series that includes Angelina Jolie as Cat Woman. Other than the obvious reasons, that would be an outstanding choice.
