2010 Ford Taurus Caught Playing In Detroit Snow!

Heavy snow in the Detroit area gave Ford Motor Company engineers the chance to do some real world testing of a nearly complete Ford Taurus sedan prototype on the streets of Detroit. The sleeker 2010 Taurus will continue to utilize the same front wheel drive D3 platform as the current generic looking Taurus, (which itself was derived from the Volvo S80 platform) but it has obviously been massively restyled with great hopes of making it a huge sales success for Ford. Under the hood, the turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine is expected to be an optional powerplant.

The current Mercury Sable sedan and Taurus X crossover/wagon will be discontinued when the new Taurus is launched in the spring of 2009. If we Americans are VERY lucky, perhap's Ford executives will see fit to ship the European Ford Mondeo here as the replacement for the soon-to-expire Mercury Sable.

I like. Though I think it needs bigger rims. The rear wheel well looks large and it seems to have a big ass.

I've been lobbying for the Aussie Ford Falcon to be sold here in North America for a long time, but it seems that the Falcon cannot be readily converted to left-hand drive. Perhaps Mercury will get the Mondeo instead.

Oh, and the current Taurus is to be offered in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, with the same driveteams as the new Taurus' platform-mate, the current Lincoln MKS.

I dunno - it's got the Ford signature "tri-bar" chrome grille. If anything, I see some Subie Legacy in the headlamps.

Not bad - hopefully it will sell well as Ford needs it to be a winner.

Mercury should get the same car, but dressed up a bit as Ford seems to take care of that division.

As for FWD, it's all my wife will get near as she does better with them on snow. Actually, I'm not sorry that I haven't used chains since our last RWD many years ago - they are a pain to put on.

Alan Mulally stated last spring that rebadging Ford’s larger and/or specialty European cars as Mercury vehicles could bolster Mercury's sales with minimum investment - cars like the Kuga, S-Max, and Mondeo - while providing a good compliment to Lincoln.

I saw these weird non-camouflaged cars, 3 of them together, just outside the Ford assembly plant in down here in Mexico. They had to be production test models as they didn't have any weird sensors or gadgets as I'm used to seeing a lot down here. I was wondering WTF they were and I found my answer here lol. Just the fact that they are down here makes me 99% certain they'll be building them here in HMO.

Conversion to LHD was planned IIRC - but someone further up the management line blocked it.

The Falcon is a very nice car at the moment. Very quick for what it is - and very nice inside.

I like the current Taurus better. It has a less pretentious greenhouse that affords better visibility. I'd not buy one now since it's way bigger than I need but I liked the original Five Hundred design. I see why Ford must replace it but I always preferred this no-nonsense design to Chrysler's gimmicky 300, which sacrificed room for style. Too bad Ford didn't have a range of engine choices like Chrysler, however.
