As many of the locals know, 106.7 has been playing Holiday music for some time now.

While I can't listen to it all day long, there is one song I can listen to over and over again:

Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song" Just a great song and timeless, IMO.

What are some of your favs?

Well I have two favourites, I used to spend alot of time in Hawaii before Christmas when I was young so Mele Kalikimaka is kind of stuck in my head. I also like the Wizard of Winter by the TSO.

As far as modern songs are concerned, I'd say "Last Christmas" by Wham. Otherwise, if I want to hear true christmas songs, I'd prefer "Stille Nacht", the German translation of "Silent Night", sung by a local choir.

Superfly, I love hearing the Carpenters too.

They weren't my time but that gal had some voice.

Well neither is Nat King Cole.
His time was before the Carpenters.

Their Christmas Portrait album is hard to top.
Karen's amazing voice with lush string arrangements is just perfect for Christmas music.

The Pheasant Plucking song
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~mentor01/song.htm
Seems appropriate this year. And coming from the Barrow Poets, it could even have an a.net connection for all we know!

I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's son
I'm only plucking pheasants 'till the pheasant plucker comes.

Me husband is a keeper, he's a very busy man
I try to understand him and I help him all I can,
But sometimes in an evening I feel a trifle dim
All alone, I'm plucking pheasants, when I'd rather pluck with him.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's mate
I'm only plucking pheasants 'cos the pheasant plucker's late !

I'm not good at plucking pheasants, at pheasant plucking I get stuck
Though some pheasants find it pleasant I'd rather pluck a duck.
Oh plucking geese is gorgeous, I can pluck a goose with ease
But pheasant plucking's torture because they haven't any grease.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, he has gone out on the tiles
He only plucked one pheasant and I'm sitting here with piles !

You have to pluck them fresh, if it’s fresh they’re not unpleasant,
I knew a man in Dunstable who could pluck a frozen pheasant.
They say the village constable had pheasant plucking sessions
With the vicar on a Sunday ‘tween the first and second lessons.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's mum
I'm only plucking pheasants 'till the pheasant plucker's come.

My good friend Godfrey is most adept, he's really got the knack
He likes to have a pheasant plucked before he hits the sack.
I like to give a helping hand, I gather up the feathers,
It's really all our pheasant plucking keeps us pair together.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's friend
I'm only plucking pheasants as a means unto an end !

My husband's in the forest always banging with his gun
If he could hear me half the time I'm sure that he would run,
For there's fluff in all my crannies, there's feathers up my nose
And I'm itching in the kitchen from my head down to my toes.

I'm not a pheasant plucker, I'm a pheasant plucker's wife
And when we pluck together it's a pheasant plucking life !

One of my favorite albums of any music whether it be holiday or just normal themed is "A Christmas Gift For You from Phil Spector." Its just amazing music all around.

Perry Como's version of Home for the Holidays is probably my favorite individual Christmas song.

There are few Christmas songs I like....most of the "hokey" ones drive me nuts!!!

The ones I like I actually listen to all year long....

"All I Want For Christmas is You" - Mariah Carey
"O Holy Night" - Willie K.
"Carol of the Bells" - TSO
"Merry Christmas Darling" - Carpenters

The Carpenters Christmas music is fine by me because I love Karen's voice and Richard's production/arrangements....very timeless and easy to listen to.

Aloha & Mele Kalikimaka!

"Oh Holy Night":

I find this to be a beautiful carol. This is actually a French Chrsitmas carol, the music was written my French composer Adolphe Adam in 1847 for the poem "Minuit Chrétien" by French poet Placide Cappeau. The carol is entitled "Cantique de Noël" in its original French version.

A version by Céline Dion (simple the first one I found), and then a version in French:

As LTU932 said above, "Silent Night" is "the" Christmas classic, and I agree that in in it's original German it's at its best. I went to many a Christmas mass in Switzerland, and listening to "Stille Nacht" used to always bring tears to my dad's eyes. So here it is in German:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNIFYgGTDHM

Another carol that always stuck in my head from Christmas mass in Switzerland, was another German carol, "Oh do fröhliche":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nKjUEfDSXQ

And here's Enya singing this classic in Irish: "Oíche Chúin"
