How crazy is that? A crew member fell overboard off that ship this morning at around 12:45am 20 miles off the coast of FL. It set sail on Dec 28th, prolly the day you arrived back into port.

Oh my, I just heard about that. It was the cruise that left on the day mine returned to Florida. One media outlet is reporting it was the boat's lead singer.
My caption now seems wrong -- as it was only the muster drill -- given what happen to the poor crew member.

According to LHR ATIS it was 2 degrees (35 degrees Fahrenheit). But it seemed a lot lower. Cold enough for feet to uncomfortably numb and hot drinks to turn cold after 5 minutes!

It was worth it though, some fantastic shots to be had despite the haze (Caution: plug Wink )...

Wimp  Wink.

I spent the last days of 2008 shooting at OSL with Jorgen Syversen, and it was -12C (10.4F) with freezing fog. I must say it wasn't that bad actually. Just dress warm (5 layers on the body, 2 on the legs including thermal underwear), keep walking to keep the blood flowing through the feet (which should be in warm boots) and make fists in your gloves (not with the fingers in the 'glove fingers') and you're good to go. You want proof? This is me, photo taken by Jorgen.

I know, I know! I was thinking "this is cold enough, what about the poor guys in Scandinavia, Switzerland, Austria etc".

I had 6 layers on the body, a pair of gloves, a scarf, hat, a pair of jeans, two pairs of socks and a normal pair of shoes. Should probably have worn my walking boots!

Probably not a bad idea, and also rethink your pants... if your legs get cold there is no way in hell your feet will stay warm. I was wearing thermal underwear (full leg size) + a FjÀll Raven windtight trouser. Can't beat that!
