A lot of threads the past couple weeks have been very political and controversial. It's nice to know where our fellow a.netters stand when it comes to these issues (If anyone runs for President, do mention your a.net nickname) but surely there are somethings that are going great. As for me,

If all goes to plan I'll get to take a cross-country trip by road this August
I have a lot more free time through some miracle so I can finally start reading novels again -- On the Road by Kerouac is up right now.
The Southeast drought seems to be going away, so the fountains around campus can be turned on again  Smile

...and since it's ATL spring is already just around the corner! Big grin

I'll gladly chime in -

- My wife and I have managed to sock away more than 40 grand for my return to flight school later this year. Needless to say, we're both stoked about the prospect of a radical departure from our current lifestyle - but I'll never live with myself if I don't finish what I started a few years back and do what I've always wanted. Having two kids in tow and undergoing the US spousal visa application process certainly makes it a bit more difficult, but nothing easy is worth doing in the long run!

- Our investments continue to perform very well despite the last few months and we'll be on solid footing for awhile yet. I came into a large inheritance in college and put it to good use rather than blowing it all on myself. Still happy with that decision.

- Our kids are healthy, beautiful, and so far, doing well using both Japanese and English.

- Our families are more or less good despite the worsening health of my wife's mother and my grandparents.

If you need someone to blame / throw a rock in the air / you'll hit someone guilty

My family is healthy and happy

We were able to purchase a great house that I will be renovating for years to come.

I survived the last round of furloughs and continue to be able to pursue a career of my choosing.

My wife made some major advancements in her career in the last 6 months.

Many other things too personal to list.

I actually manage to maintain a pretty positive outlook on life these days:

- I may not enjoy it every day, but I have a job, and it keeps me busy

- I'm slowly but surely (finally) finishing up my bachelors degree

- I managed to successfully move to LAX from BOS a year and a half ago

- Going along with that, I now get to golf, play tennis, and go hiking all year round

- My grandmother is still alive and living on her own at 90 years old....she's the most important person in my life, bar none.

- As always, even when times aren't so good (or perhaps especially then), I'm extremely grateful for my family and my friends, who are basically family to me as well

- Did I mention I get to golf all year round?  Smile

- I've managed to start acquiring a guitar collection over the last 2 years or so (ahhh, Craigslist and other used instrument retailers are great), and more importantly, I've been improving a crapload simply by playing almost every day

Well, after struggling through the past three years, I've decided to live back in the UK and managed to get a half decent job with not bad pay even though I don't start for a few more weeks, I bought myself a little car, I'm on the waiting list for housing but I'm not holding out on getting anything for a few months and I have a beautiful little niece who I love to bits. The only thing missing in my life now is someone to share it with.

I got a “1st place with invitation on to DUS” in the regional “Jugend Musiziert” musical competition - on my [American Wink] bassoon. Therefore I’ll be playing my programme in the state competition in Düsseldorf in late March. If I’ll get 23-25 points there, I’ll be invited to play in the country competition in Essen in the end of May.

This is a rather therapeutic post. I have been down about a few things lately, so it is nice to think of all the good things.

- Although I really, really hate my job - I do have one that pays very well. Good to have in these uncertain times. My wife also has a good job.

- Have a great, caring, understanding, loving wife

- Have no debt except our home with enough savings to ride out any kind of job loss

- Just got a brand new bad-ass car a few months ago - Audi A5

- Only 39 days until our vacation to Thailand - flying on 777's, 747's, 757's

- My mother is now cancer free

I'll know more about the future of my job tomorrow. Even if it goes pear-shaped, I have a plan (most of which would involve moving to China, which seems to be the only country that might weather the depression).

I'm still first chair in my college's top band. That makes three semesters in a row!

Georgia ended the football season on a win over Michigan State 24-12 (and I was in attendance  Smile )

I've been bowling very well since the turn of the year. In sanctioned competition in 2009 my average is 225.44

I like this thread-great idea!

-I had an amazing first semester of college here at UW-Madison
-I was able to get in all of my classes I wanted and have an ideal schedule this semester, which I have really enjoyed so far.
-Billy Joel (and Elton John)-who I have dreamed of seeing live-recently announced they are having a concert right here in Madison this May, which I will hopefully attend...(also, if I'm lucky enough to get tickets you can assume I would put that here...)
-I found out I will be able to return to both of my summer jobs teaching tennis and working in a pro-shop.
-And like many people said, spring is around the corner!

- thanks to the crappy job, which has served as a good eye-opener, I finally got the motivation to go back to college

- will finally start my military service in March, something that I'm really looking forward to

- by September I will have saved up enough money for pilot school

Great thread.

Actually this year looks much better than 2008: I had serious health issues last year, a cancer threat, an operation and such but everything ok now.

In these turbulent times my boring but safe job feels quite ok actually. The best thing is that I was promised I can take a 7-month break from work, called a job-alternation (not sure if the right term in English). The idea is that an old work horse can take a 3-12 months extra holiday and some unemployed person is hired for the period. The state will pay me around a half of my current net salary during the time.

So will be free and poor most of the year, planning to use my savings for travelling though  Wink

Same in Helsinki, the darkest winter is gone. Still using my therapy light lamp daily though, love it!
And it's great we have snow at the moment, the black snow-free winter days becoming too common up here.

I guess I can't complain too much. Well I can, but it wouldn't do any good.

Touch wood - health is OK for myself and family.

I have a job, it pays well and it gives me the opportunity to travel, but I've come to hate it lately, and it doesn't look like this is going to be a very good year for us. The good days at work are over.

Other things to look forward to - I recently bought a 1992 Jeep Wrangler which I am having a great time driving. And I am just a couple thousand miles short of the 210,000 EK Skywards miles needed for a free trip from DXB to LAX in First Class, yay!
