Big enough to support active chapters of the Crips and Bloods, or so I've heard.

As I understand, Anchorage's population is nearly half that of the entire state of Alaska.

In a sense, Alaska's a lot like my home province. Both Alaska and Alberta have oil and natural gas as a very important part of their economy, and unfortunately, are very prone to oil and natural gas price fluctuations. Both have experienced periods of rapid population and economic growth. I'm not sure how fast Anchorage's really grown, but Edmonton and Calgary were roughly about 90,000 people each at the end of WW2, and now both of them are expected to reach one million each as early as 2005-2006.

As of now, Alberta is experiencing a period of rapid growth once again. Is Alaska doing the same?
