Seems like there are 8,5 billion USD missing in his bank on the Bermudas ( from what I have read in a Austrian newspaper). He promised some 10-15% profits... that made him suspicious.

You get the feeling that Stamford, Madoff and others of the ilk are little better than purveyors of letters from Nigeria, just "respectable".

You know he was the owner of the Caribbean Star and Caribbean Sun Airlines, until he decided to get out of the airlines business. I remember when he visited the Grenada base, he was caught looking proudly on his Dash8s on the tarmac.. Big grin He was actually a cool down to earth guy.

Well with the amount of money he's throwing behind 20/20 cricket you just knew something was wrong.

Sounds like "easy come easy go" on steroids. Considerable embarrassment for UK cricket authorities. Have they checked Lords to see if he nicked anything? Well apart from their "standards".

Sad little sidelight on the cricketing aspects:-

"While the bulk of the team have cashed their cheques, five of them, including Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan, were believed to have been persuaded to reinvest their winnings with one of Stanford's companies."

Ironic that, within an hour or so, those two guys will have to set out to bat most of today (in Antigua of all places!) to save WI from defeat in the Third Test by England.........

Poor devils.......

Irony indeed. Was the other outfield a result of Stanford beneficence too?

Have they caught up with him yet?

I heard on BBC News that he had tried to get a private flight out of the US but his credit card was refused lol

Sadly that was just the WICB incompetence. As someone mentioned on TMS, imagine what could have been done at the ARG in terms of upgrades with just 10% of the money spent on the white elephant that is the Viv Richards stadium.
