When asked repeatedly if he would rein in militants amongst his people, Yasser shouted, 'You have to be accurate when you are speaking with General Yasser Arafat,' at Christiane Amanpour, who has a nice face.
'Are you asking me why I am under complete siege?' he fumed. 'You are a wonderful journalist. You have to respect your profession.'
'You are covering with these questions the terrorist activities of the Israeli occupation and the Israeli crimes. Be fair!' he shouted, his voice cracking.
Asked whether he thought the Israelis were trying to kill him, he fired back: 'What do you expect, by shelling us continuously in the last 24 hours. What do you think? Is it by chance?'.

Yeah then he hung up on Amanpour. He's a terrorist nothing more, the worst kind actually.
He has led his people to absolute ruin, he cares not for any Palestinian state, just violence, attacks, "shaheedin" and the destruction of Israel.
No state founded on the ashes of nihilist suicide bombers can ever form the society to be successful or even civil.
You notice how Arafat never discusses the state he wants, just that he wants it?? Tom Friedman nailed it on the head in today's NYTIMES: "All the Palestinians can agree on as a community is what they want to destroy, not what they want to build. Have you ever heard Mr. Arafat talk about what sort of education system or economy he would prefer, what sort of constitution he wants? No, because Mr. Arafat is not interested in the content of a Palestinian state, only the contours."
Sad, sad. 18 year old girls are strapping dynamite to their chest. That is sick.

"Be quiet!"
The best part was when he was complaining about being under siege by Israelis armed with US weapons, when from the footage shown on TV only M-4/CAR-15 carbines can be indentified as US made weapons. Aside from that you can see Merkava MBT's (Apparently Arafat believs they're American) and Achzarit APC's (The hulls of Soviet made T-55's, that were "donated" to Israel by their Arab neighbours and modified by the IMI to become the best protected APC's in their class in the world). I wonder if the IDF did that on purpose.

Yeah, really, TNNH. Bring back the Karime A story, the facts that while Hussein's people are starving, he is giving millions to families of people who try to kill Jewish civilians. Hussein and Arafat are similar in that respect-- they care not of their own people, rather of themselves and their movement (anti-Israel).

I was wondering about the history of those APC'S LY744. Thanks for the background on their history. I didn't recognize them. But for the record there where some M113's also floating around there.
I surprised that you missed this other weapon choice. They released several photographs of Arafat sitting a that table in his remaining compond giving interviews over the phone. His has a sub-machine gun lying in it's holster next to him on the table. Did you notice it?
It is a 9mm UZI. And we know who manufacurers the UZI.
Kind of Ironic isn't it.

Wow, is that really true? I know Arafat has no shame, but I thought he would have more pride!!

Yeah, but I didn't see any M113's near the compound. I did see quite a few M113 G6's ("Zeldas" as the Israelis call them) in other footage of Ramallah from recent days. They have much more M113's in their arsenal, including some newly upgraded funky looking G7's. It was reported that only one of the 4 main infantry brigades (Golani) of the IDF uses the Achzarit extensively, apparently they only have a couple hundreds of them. The IDF Combat Engineer Corps also operate numerous APC's that are based on a modified hull of Centurion tanks (the Puma is one of them).
As for the Uzi, I'm not surprised at all. The Palestinian police was armed by the Israelis, who gave them a bunch of members of the AK-47 family, and probably M-16's, Galils, and various Uzis. Another possibility is that it was smuggled ilegally into PA territories, it seems that such occasions were not uncommon when the situation was calmer.
