George Kennedy turns 84 years old today.
My favorite roles he's been in were on all 4 Airport movies as well as Naked Gun.
Personally I think he was best in the movie Airport 79 The Concorde.
Though not the best of the Airport series, his character really shined and was very entertaining.
At the time, Kennedy explained in a television appearance why he felt Owens' story and accomplishments were important and how he was proud to participate in the show. I always liked him after that.
Happy Birthday, George!

Quoting JeffSFO (Reply 3): My favorite role of his was from The Jesse Owens Story:
I saw that movie back in 9th. grade. I didn't know he was in that movie. I may need to see it again. From what I remember, that was a very serious and historical movie. Far from his roles in Airport 79 and Naked Gun series.

George Kennedy is great. I like his role in "In Harms Way" 1965. He was also great in Earthquake 1974, Flight of the Phoenix 1965, and The Dirty Dozen 1967. I like just about every role he ever had.
As far as Airport goes the 1970 film is my favorite. I know I know Superfly, you like '77 and '79, but they just don't do it for me. The original and 1975 have much better actors.
George is a WWII vet, which is great, too many of today's actors are too wimpy to have ever served their country.

My favorite scene is in Airport taxiing the 707 out of snow drift. I just did not know that I would be doing that for a living when I first saw that as a kid.

It's everyone's favorite except me.
I've made over 30 attempts to watch that movie from beginning to end but it always puts me to sleep.

My favorite line is in Airport 1975; "Sometimes the public's right to know is just a pain in the ass!"
I also like how he punches the Sheriff in the face in the movie Earthquake after a car chase that ended up messing up the hedges in Zsa Zsa Gabor's front yard.

Best of the "Airport" movies, IMHO.

Happy Birthday Mr. Kennedy!
I gotta switch gears here from the Airport movies, and of course the awesomeness that is Naked Gun, but I truly believe he played an exceptional role in Cool Hand Luke. It's one of my favorite movies. Especially the scene with the girl washing the car, it was riske back then. Anyways, Happy Birthday!

After removing the B707 from a snowbank:
Assistant: "The instruction book said that was impossible!"
Joe Patroni (George Kennedy): "That's one nice thing about the 707. She can do everything but read."
