Earthquake Strikes Taipei, 5 Killed So Far

Powerful earthquake measured M6.8 has striked Taiwan on Sunday at 1453LT (3.31).

Despite the epicentre is on the sea, Taipei City facing major damages.


At least 5 killed and more than 20 injured in the 101-storey Financial centre construction site during the quake, when the construction crane fell off from 60 floors. 4 cars got smashed as well. (The building currently standing at 60-storey high. And supposed to be the tallest building in the world after it opens)


A building on Section 3 of Cheng-de Road sanked, 7 people inside the building all rescued. A building that was beside the one that collapsed in 1999 earthquake is in danger of collapse too.

Major damages includes:
-Outerwalls in Taiwan museum collapsed, as well as Human resources centre.

-Chiang Kai-shek memorial mesuem's sign fall off.

-Domestic Sung-shan Airport had one of it's ceiling collapsed

-Japanese department 'SOGO' in Taipei had it's glass broken, injuring few, closed immediately.

-Jin-Hua Town (Shopping centre) had its water pipe broke down, closed at some moment.

-Kwang-Hua mall (Computer mall) facing major loss.

-Taipei's most popular shopping district to teens out of power, glasses from building collapsed.

-President's office and near by out of electricity.

-At least 20 and more location in Taipei had its gas leaked out.

-Taipei Rapid Transit system all shut down after the quake until 1725LT.

-Highway in Yuan-Shan bridge 'rise higher' after the quake.

-more than 10 cars got smashed after a parking lot collapsed.

In Kee-lung, a bridge closed because of earthquake. 24.2KM on Taiwan's Highway 1 closed after cracks fround on the road.

In Taipei County, buildings showing cracks and crains and metal bars. 1 building in danger of collapse. More than 250000 homes out of water.

In I-Lan, a temple had its wall collapsed. Museum's wall collapsed, injuring a 65y/o senior. A factory collapsed as well. 2 cases of fire having 1 senior trapped in the house.

A 8y/o kid got hit by fallen rock on Su-Hua (connecting Su-ao in I-Lan and Hualien; on the mountain) freeway.

In Taichung, Chung-Yu department store had its sky-bridge partially collapsed with cracks inside.

Authorities has warned major aftershock is expected with in 2weeks.
